HP LaserJet P4010 and P4510 Printer Series - Retail Printing Solution with High Capacity Input Tray (HCI)

What is it?
The HP Retail Printing Solution provides the retail industry a new option for printing vinyl media, while continuing to meet existing in-store printing needs.
Powered by the HP LaserJet 4014/4015/4515 Series Printers and backed by HP performance and reliability, this solution meets the unique requirements of the retail environment.
With its high capacity input (HCI) tray, the HP Retail Printing Solution overcomes the challenges of printing vinyl media. Instead of overseeing the printing of small batches of vinyl shelf labels, you can now hang labels while batches print, without worrying about jams or fuser damage.
The HP Retail Printing Solution meets your unique output needs using standard trays for printing professional reports, invoices, and tags. As a solution based on high performance HP LaserJet products, the HP Retail Printing Solution delivers the speed to get the job done quickly and the reliability to protect your day-to-day operations.
How does it work?
The HP Retail Printing Solution HCI supports letter-size vinyl labels only. HCI is only supported in tray positions 3 or 4. To use the HP Retail Printing Solutions HCI, set the media type, media size, and fuser mode from the control panel.
  note:
When printing vinyl labels, the product automatically sets itself to print at half speed.
The HP Retail Printing Solution HCI does have a different pick roller, motors and pick mechanisms from the standard HCI. See images below:

  note:
The HCI does need to be installed in the tray 3 or 4 tray position. If the vinyl HCI is installed in a lower position (tray 5 or 6) it can cause premature wear on the engine, and it is not supported.
Installation & Set Up
Before installing the HP Retail Printing Solution HCI, verify that the latest DC controller firmware (15) and product firmware (04.048.4) are installed. The DC Controller and printer Firmware can be verified on the configuration page from the printer and verify the current firmware, under Printer Information.

If the firmware is not current, download and install the JP4xxxFW_04_048_4_bundle.RFU firmware file from this FTP site: ftp://ljp4000:cpe91@hprc.external.hp.com/.
Use ljp4000 for the log in ID, and use cpe91 for the case-sensitive password. When the current firmware is installed, turn the product off, attach the HCI, and then turn the product on. You must now install the LJP4xxxFW_04_048_4_bundle.RFU firmware file a second time.
After installing the HP Retail Printing Solution HCI, set the media size and type on the printer:
  1. Press Menu on the control panel.
  2. Scroll down to PAPER HANDLING.
  3. Set the size setting for Tray 3 or Tray 4 to LETTER.
  4. Set the type setting for Tray 3 or Tray 4 to VINYL LABELS.
There is a unique driver for the HP Retail Printing Solution. This driver has vinyl label as a paper type that will need to be selected. This driver will need to be downloaded from www.hp.com and the driver version is 61.082.73.41.
Troubleshooting
It is recommended to fan all media before loading the media into the HP Retail Printing Solution HCI.
The pick force can be adjusted on the HP Retail Printing Solution HCI for various labels used. There is a lever located next to the pick and feed rollers that will adjust the tension spring. The tension spring ships in position 1. See image below.

If the product picks up multiple sheets of vinyl media, move the tension spring to position 3 to decrease tension.
If the product fails to pick up vinyl media, move the tension spring to position 2 to increase tension.
Support
The HP Retail Printing Solution HCI has a one-year warranty. You must conduct periodic maintenance for the HP Retail Printing Solution HCI when the product reaches 22 5,000 pages. A control-panel message displays when the rollers require replacement.
The rollers in the HP Retail Printing Solution HCI are customer replaceable and should be replaced at the same time the standard maintenance kit (110v CB388A, 220v CB389A) is replaced at 225,000 pages. The HP Retail Printing Solution HCI roller kit part number is CB506-67908.
HP has tested vinyl media types from multiple vendors with the HP Retail Printing Solution HCI. The HP Retail Printing Solution HCI supports vinyl labels between 265 g/m2 and 300 g/m2. Because vendors regularly modify their vinyl media, you should contact the media vendor for support if issues arise with a specific vinyl media. Be aware that some vinyl media can deposit adhesive on consumables, print cartridges, and the fuser, which can result in poor fusing and print quality issues.
