HP Compaq dc7800 Business PC Series - Intel E8400 Not Detected by the System

Issue
The customer may report that his unit is not able to boot at all, showing a black screen and producing no beeps or error messages, if he installs an Intel E8400 CPU (HP P/N 455678-104 ). Replacing the CPU with a new one does not resolve the issue.
Solution
This issue occurs because there was a stepping change by Intel in selected processors. The E8400 C-0 stepping has moved to an E-0 stepping. HP was required to make a change to the BIOS in order for the HP Compaq dc7800 Business PCs to support the new stepping. To resolve this issue and obtain support for the E8400 CPUs (so they are recognized by HP systems, enabling regular booting), update the System BIOS to revision 1.27A, which is available from the www.hp.com website.
