HP xw9300 Workstation - Removing and Replacing the PCI Cards

Introduction
This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the PCI Cards for the HP Workstation xw9300.
Minimum skill level
The End-User should possess product-specific knowledge and technical skill on how to service the system, and have familiarity with the operating system.

The replacement part number will vary depending on the PCI Cards that is being replaced. If a part is listed as 'Yes' under 'Requires Return' then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP.

PCI Cards removal
  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Remove the access panel.
  3. Disconnect any cables attached to the expansion card.
  4. Press the two tabs on the side of the expansion card tensioner to release it from the chassis, then rotate the tensioner away from the expansion card and out of the chassis.
  5. Press down on the two green expansion card retainer clips until they release.
  6. Rotate the expansion card retainer up against the rear of the chassis.
      note:
    Slot 1 and slot 3 are PCI Express slots with locking tabs. Push out and hold the locking tab while lifting expansion cards from these slots. On the xw9300 only, the PCI-E locking tabs are on the opposite side of the card from the tab orientation on the xw6200 or xw8200.
  7. Lift straight up on the expansion card to remove it from the slot.
  8. Place the expansion card in a static dissipative bag.
PCI Cards replacement
  1. Remove the expansion card from the static dissipative bag.
  2. Align the connectors on the expansion card with the slot on the system board.
  3. Press down on the expansion card until it is fully seated in the slot on the system board.
  4. Rotate the expansion card retainer down over the expansion card bulkhead.
  5. Press in on the two green expansion card retainer tabs on the rear of the chassis until they lock into place.
  6. Hook the two tabs on the expansion card tensioner into the chassis slots and rotate the tensioner into position.
  7. Ensure that the tensioner is correctly aligned with the expansion card, then press down on the tensioner until the retainer tabs lock into place.
  8. Reconnect any cables to the expansion card.
