HP Photosmart A320 and A321 Printers - Blinking Lights

Introduction
Lights blinking, or flashing, on the printer can signal a possible issue with the printer. This document lists steps to correct any issues indicated by the flashing lights. Find the pattern of flashing lights that match the lights flashing on your printer and follow the directions in the table below.
  note:
Flashing lights can be caused by multiple issues, so there may be multiple solutions listed in each section below.

Issue
The HP Photosmart printer is not responding.
Solution
  1. Check the On light located on the top of the HP Photosmart printer. If it is not lit, the HP Photosmart printer is turned off.
  2. Make sure the power cord is firmly connected to the HP Photosmart printer and plugged into a power outlet.
  3. Press the On button to turn on the HP Photosmart printer.

Issue
The printer is out of paper.
Solution
To load paper follow the steps below.
  1. Open the output tray on the front of the printer. The input tray opens automatically.

  2. Place a few sheets of HP Advanced Photo Paper in the input tray with the glossy side facing the front of the printer. A paper sample pack is included in the box with the printer.
  3. Align the paper against the left side of the input tray. Adjust the paper-width guide to fit close to the right edge of the paper without bending it.
The resume light blinking indicates that the OK button should be pressed to resume printing after the error is cleared.

Issue
The print cartridge is low on ink.
Solution
Replace the print cartridges. To replace the cartridges follow the steps below.
  1. Open the print cartridge package.
  2. Push down and pull the print cartridge toward you out of its slot.
  3. Remove the new print cartridge from its packaging.
  4. Pull the pink pull- tab to remove the clear tape from the print cartridge.

      note:
    Do not touch or remove the ink nozzles or the copper- colored contacts.
  5. Open the print cartridge door.

  6. Insert the print cartridge into the print cartridge cradle with the label facing up and the copper- colored contacts facing the inside of the printer.
  7. Push the print cartridge into the cradle until it snaps into place.
  8. Close the print cartridge door.
  9. The printer aligns the print cartridge, ensuring high print quality. An alignment page prints.

Issue
Print Cartridge light is blinking red.
Solution
This indicates that the print cartridge door is open. Close the print cartridge door and resume printing.

Issue
The attention light blinks red indicating that a paper jam has occured.
Solution
  1. If the paper came part way through the front of the printer, gently pull the paper towards you to remove it.
  2. If the paper did not come part way through the front of the printer, try removing it from the back of the printer by following the steps below.
    1. Remove the paper from the input tray.
    2. Gently pull the jammed paper to remove it from the back of the printer.
  3. If you cannot grasp the edge of the jammed paper to remove it, try the following:
    1. Turn off the printer.
    2. Unplug the printer power cord from the electrical outlet.
    3. Wait about 10 seconds, and then plug the power cord back in.
    4. Turn on the printer. The printer checks for paper in the paper path and will automatically eject the jammed paper.
    5. Press OK to continue.
