Removing the Access Covers in HP TouchSmart IQ700 Series Desktop PCs

This document only pertains to HP TouchSmart desktop PCs with the following case:
Before you begin
  • Turn off the computer, disconnect all cables and transfer the computer to a clear, flat, stable work surface over a non-carpeted floor. Be sure to disconnect the modem cable before disconnecting the power cord.
  • Electrostatic discharge (ESD) can damage your processor, disk drives, expansion boards and other components. HP strongly recommends the use of an anti-static wrist strap and a conductive foam pad when working on the computer.
  • Do not remove a component from its protective packaging until you are ready to install a component.
  caution:
This product contains components that can be damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD). To reduce the chance of ESD damage, work over a noncarpeted floor, use a static dissipative work surface (such as a conductive foam pad), and wear an ESD wrist strap connected to a grounded surface.
To access the hard drive, the vertical back cover needs to be removed. To remove the vertical back cover, use the section Removing the vertical back cover.
To replace memory or a CD/DVD drive, the bottom cover needs to be removed. To remove the bottom cover, use the section Removing the bottom cover.

Removing the vertical back cover
To access the hard drive, you must remove the vertical back cover.
  warning:
Make sure the computer is disconnected from power before starting.
Step 1. To remove the vertical back cover, push down on the lever behind the computer display.
Step 2. Pull the vertical back cover away from the computer.
Replacing the vertical back cover
Step 1. Align the ten hooks inside the cover ...
... with the 10 matching slots on the computer.
Step 2. Align the two tabs at the bottom of the vertical cover ...
... with the two tabs under the guides on the computer.
Step 3. Press the lever behind the display and swing the vertical cover until it snaps into place.
Removing the bottom cover
To access the CD/DVD drive and the memory modules, you must remove the bottom cover.
  warning:
Make sure the computer is disconnected from power before starting.
Step 1. To remove the bottom cover, first remove the vertical back cover.
For more information about removing the vertical back cover, see Removing the vertical back cover.
Step 2. Detach the two screws at the back of the bottom cover.
Step 3. Pull back firmly to remove the bottom cover from the computer.
Replacing the bottom cover
Step 1. Align the bottom cover with the bottom of the computer.
Step 2. Slide the bottom cover firmly forward to secure it in place.
Step 3. Replace the two screws to secure the bottom cover to the back of the computer.
