HP Photosmart M537 Digital Camera Series - 'Lens Error: M537- 033' Message Displays on the Camera LCD

Issue
When the camera is turned off, the lens does not completely retract, and remains in the extended position. When this occurs the Lens Error: M537-033 message is displayed on the camera LCD.

Solution
Try the first solution below to resolve this issue. If the issue is not resolved, try the next solution.
  1. If a memory card is installed in the camera, remove the memory card from the camera.
  2. Turn the camera off and then back on.
    If the error message still displays or the lens remains extended, continue to the next solution.
Use batteries that have been fully charged or if using non-rechargeable batteries, make sure that they are known to be good batteries. Whenever possible, new batteries are recommended.

Solution three: Set the camera selector slide to Playback
If the Lens Error: M537-033 message displays when the camera is placed in a camera docking station, follow the steps below.
Follow the steps to set the camera selector slide () to Playback ().
  note:
The camera selector slide () should always be set to Playback () before placing the camera in the camera dock and turning the camera on.
  1. Unplug the power cord from the camera dock.
  2. Remove the camera from the camera dock.
  3. Turn the camera off.
  4. Turn the camera on. The lens should extend.
  5. Turn the camera off.
  6. Move the camera selector slide () all the way to the right to select Playback ().
  7. Place the camera back in the camera dock.
  8. Plug the power cord back into the camera dock.
  9. Turn the camera on. The error message should no longer display and the lens should not extend.
    If the error message still displays or the lens remains extended, continue to the next solution.

If you completed all the preceding steps and your product still has an issue, service the product.
Check your product warranty to determine if your product is still under warranty, and then go to Contact HP Support to schedule a repair or replacement.
Repair fees might apply for out-of-warranty products.
Cause
This message occurs when the camera is turned off and the lens remains extended. This can happen if there is debris in the lens, if the camera was dropped, or if the lens is defective.
