HP Notebook PCs - Steps for Removing and Replacing the Hard Disk Drive

This document provides instructions for the removal and replacement of the hard disk drive for the dv2000 and V3000 series notebook PCs.
Use the video as a guide while following the written instructions below.
To view the video press the Play button on the player control bar below the video.

Step 1 - Remove the battery

  1. Slide the battery release latch to the release position and hold.
  2. Lift and remove the battery.

Step 2 - Remove the hard disk drive

  1. Loosen the two captive P0 Phillips head screws that secure the hard disk drive cover to the bottom of the notebook.
    note:
    Screw location is indicated by the appropriate icon.
  2. Use your finger or a flat-bladed tool to lift the inside edge of the hard disk drive cover and lift. Work the holding tabs along each side of the cover to fully free it and remove.
  3. Remove the two 3mm P1 Phillips head screws that secure the hard disk drive to the notebook.
  4. Grasp the plastic tab on the top of the hard disk drive and lift to release it from the connector on the base enclosure.
  5. Lift the hard disk drive from the bay and remove.
  6. Place the hard disk drive in a static dissipative bag.

Step 3 - Replace the hard disk drive

  1. Remove the hard disk drive from the static dissipative bag.
  2. Toe the hard disk drive into the hard disk drive bay.
  3. Replace the two 3mm P1 Phillips head screws that secure the hard disk drive to the notebook.
  4. Toe the hard disk drive cover into the enclosure and snap it into place.
  5. Tighten the two captive P0 Phillips head screws.

Step 4 - Replace the battery

  1. Tilt and place the battery into the battery bay until it is properly seated and the locking latch clicks.
