This document describes how to install and use the HP Support Assistant software designed for the Chrome operating system (Chrome OS).
Use these steps to update your operating system and install the HP Support Assistant extension for Chrome OS.
Chrome OS version 99.0.4844.57 or later is required to run HP Support Assistant.
Turn on your Chrome device.
Connect your Chrome device to Wi-Fi.
At the bottom-right corner, select the time.
Select Settings.
At the bottom of the left panel, select About Chrome OS.
The Chrome OS version installed on your Chrome device is listed under Google Chrome OS.
Select Check for updates.
If your Chrome device finds a software update, the download starts automatically.
From the Chrome Web Store, search for and install the HP Support Assistant extension.
In the Chrome browser, go to https://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/extensions.
Search for HP Support Assistant.
Click Add to Chrome.
HP Support Assistant might not be available for older Chrome devices or devices with 32-bit Chrome OS.
Use these steps to add a new HP device using HP Support Assistant.
Sign in to HP Support Assistant.
Click Add device.
Enter your serial number, and then press enter.
If you need help, click Find my device.
After the Device Found screen appears, click the result.
Type a nickname in the nickname field, and then click Add device.
Find your computer name, product number, and serial number with HP Support Assistant.
In Chrome, search for and open HP Support Assistant, or click the app icon in the taskbar.
If the app is not installed on your computer, go to HP Support Assistant to download the latest version.

Use these steps to test your computer battery with HP Support Assistant.
Connect the AC adapter to the Chromebook.
In HP Support Assistant, click Check your battery.
Click Run battery check.
HP Support Assistant checks the battery to determine if the battery charge and discharge rate indicate a problem with the battery health. A battery capacity test and general battery health test are also performed. An animation displays the current test.
Depending on the result of the battery check, do one of the following.
If your Chromebook passed the battery check, disconnect your AC adapter and repeat the test. If your Chromebook passes the test again and you are still experiencing problems, try resetting the Chromebook. See Reset your Chromebook to factory settings - Chromebook Help (in English).
If your Chromebook failed the battery check, contact HP Support.
Guided troubleshooting using the HP Virtual Assistant may also be available. Click the back arrow on the failure screen to access the HP Virtual Assistant.
Use these steps to test your computer CPU with HP Support Assistant.
Be sure that the AC adapter is connected to your Chrome device.
In HP Support Assistant, click Check your CPU.
Click Run CPU check.
HP Support Assistant performs a stress test and cache test to determine if the processor is functioning correctly.
Depending on the result of the battery check, do one of the following.
If your computer passed the CPU check and you are still experiencing problems, try resetting the computer. See Reset your Chromebook to factory settings - Chromebook Help (in English).
If the CPU check failed, contact HP Support.
Use these steps to test your computer memory with HP Support Assistant.
In HP Support Assistant, click Check your storage.
Click Run storage check.
Let the storage check run. Testing might take several minutes.
Depending on your computer's hardware configuration, the test may read eMMC life time or UFS life time.
Depending on the result of the storage check, do one of the following.
If your computer passed the storage check and you are still experiencing problems, try resetting the computer. See Reset your Chromebook to factory settings - Chromebook Help (in English).
If the storage check failed, contact HP Support.
Use these steps to test your computer memory with HP Support Assistant.
In HP Support Assistant, click Check your system memory.
Click Run memory check.
Let the memory check run. Testing might take several minutes.
Depending on the result of the memory check, do one of the following.
If your computer passed the memory check and you are still experiencing problems, try resetting the computer. See Reset your Chromebook to factory settings - Chromebook Help (in English).
If the memory check failed, contact HP Support.
Use these steps to test your computer connectivity with HP Support Assistant.
In HP Support Assistant, click Check your connectivity.
Click Run connectivity check.
Wait while the connectivity check runs.
Depending on the result of the connectivity check, do one of the following.
If your connectivity passed the memory check and you are still experiencing problems, try resetting the computer. See Reset your Chromebook to factory settings - Chromebook Help (in English).
If the connectivity check failed, check your wireless settings, hard reset your system, and then run the connectivity check again. If the connectivity check still fails, contact HP Support.
The component tests in HPSA for Chrome allow you to test audio and camera components.
Use diagnostic tools to troubleshoot audio issues.
Use these steps to test your audio playback with HP Support Assistant.
In HP Support Assistant, click Component tests.
Click Audio.
Select Audio playback test.
On the Audio playback test screen, click the speaker icon next to a device to test the audio.
You can run tests for multiple internal and external audio devices.
If prompted to allow access to your device, go to the Chrome browser to allow access, and then press the Refresh icon in HP Support Assistant.
Wait for the test to finish.
The audio playback test results show as passed, failed, or no device detected. Click Next test to see results from additional devices. Depending on the result of the audio playback test, do one of the following.
If your audio devices passed the audio playback test and you are still experiencing problems, try resetting the computer. See Reset your Chromebook to factory settings - Chromebook Help (in English).
If the audio playback test failed or no devices were found, either click Get help with HP's Virtual Assistant or contact HP Support.
Use these steps to test your audio recording with HP Support Assistant.
In HP Support Assistant, click Component tests.
Click Audio.
Select Audio record test.
On the Audio record test screen, click the speaker icon next to a device to test the audio.
You can run tests for multiple internal and external audio devices.
If prompted to allow access to your device, go to the Chrome browser to allow access, and then press the Refresh icon in HP Support Assistant.
Wait for the test to finish.
The audio playback test results show as passed, failed, or no device detected. Click Next test to see results from additional devices. Depending on the result of the audio record test, do one of the following.
If your audio devices passed the audio record test and you are still experiencing problems, try resetting the computer. See Reset your Chromebook to factory settings - Chromebook Help (in English).
If the audio record test failed or no devices were found, either click Get help with HP's Virtual Assistant or contact HP Support.
Use these steps to test your camera with HP Support Assistant.
In HP Support Assistant, click Component tests.
Click Camera.
On the Webcam test screen, click the camera icon next to each device to test the webcam.
You can run tests for multiple internal and external webcam devices.
If prompted to allow access to your device, go to the Chrome browser to allow access, and then press the Refresh icon in HP Support Assistant.
Select whether the camera is working.
The webcam test results show as passed, failed, or no device detected. Click Next test to see results from additional devices. Depending on the result of the webcam test, do one of the following.
If your camera devices passed the webcam test and you are still experiencing problems, try resetting the computer. See Reset your Chromebook to factory settings - Chromebook Help (in English).
If the webcam test failed or no devices were detected, either click Get help with HP's Virtual Assistant or contact HP Support.
