Learn how to configure the Manage Tray settings in the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
This document applies to HP Enterprise and HP Managed printers running HP FutureSmart firmware.
You can use the EWS to manage tray settings for the printer. In addition to managing the paper size and type settings for specific trays, you can also manage general tray settings for features such as Alternative Letterhead Mode, duplexing, and prompts.
Use the following steps to configure the paper tray settings.
Click the Copy/Print or Print tab.
Open the Manage Trays menu.
Modify the tray settings.
To set the paper size and type for a tray, complete the following procedure:
In the area labeled Trays, click the Modify link next to the name of the tray.
To change the default paper size, select a paper size from the Size drop-down list.
To change the default paper type, select the paper type from the Type drop-down list.
Click OK to return to the main Manage Trays page.
To change the general tray settings, complete the following procedure:
In the area labeled General Tray Settings, open the drop-down list of the appropriate feature.
Select the appropriate setting.
Click Apply to save the settings.
Load paper into the trays as follows.
To avoid jams, never add or remove paper from Tray 1 during printing.
Labels on each tray indicate the correct way to load paper. If you change the size or type of paper that is loaded in the tray, you need to configure the tray for the new size or type.
Use the following steps to load Tray 1.
Open Tray 1.
Pull out the tray extension to support the paper and set the side guides to the correct width.
Load paper in the tray.
Make sure the stack fits under the tabs on the guides and does not exceed the load-level indicators.
Adjust the side guides so that they lightly touch the paper stack but do not bend it.
Use the following steps to load Tray 2 and optional trays.
Open the tray.
Do not open the tray while it is in use.
Adjust the paper-length and paper-width guides by squeezing the adjustment latches and sliding the guides to the size of the paper being used.
Load paper into the tray. Check the paper to verify the guides lightly touch the stack, but do not bend it.
To prevent jams, do not overfill the tray. Be sure the top of the stack is below the tray full indicator.
If the tray is not adjusted correctly, an error message might appear during printing or the paper might jam.
Close the tray.
The control panel shows the tray’s paper type and size. If the configuration is not correct, follow the instructions on the control panel to change the size or type.
