HP+ printers - About HP Smart Advance

HP Smart Advance offers you a premium HP Smart experience. When you agree to the HP+ terms of service, you receive one 24-month trial of HP Smart Advance.

Note:

An HP account is required to use HP Smart, and not all mobile devices or regions have access to all settings at this time.

HP Smart Advance features

In addition to the benefits of HP Smart, HP Smart Advance provides the following extra features.

  • Advanced scan:

    • Multi-Item recognition: Scan multiple items at the same time and automatically separate each item into individual pages.

    • Book scanning: Scan an open book and automatically flatten pages and save all scanned pages into a single file.

    • Auto-Heal: Remove distracting marks and hole punches.

    • Save as Text Files: Save scans as searchable PDF, TXT, and DOCX files.

  • Mobile Fax: Send secure faxes: Scan files and send secure faxes from any device.

Multi-Item recognition

Mutil-item recognition is available in the HP Smart app when you scan from your printer's scanner glass or your mobile device camera.

  1. Place 2 or 3 different items such as business cards, receipts, documents, or photos on your printer's scanner or capture them in your camera frame.

  2. Set the source to match your scan location.

  3. Set the scan type to Multi-Item.

  4. Click or tap Scan.

    A preview displays the scanned items separately. Choose to save the scan as one file or separate files.

Book scanning

Book scanning is available in your HP Smart app when scanning from the printer's scanner glass or your mobile device camera.

  1. Place an open book on your printer's scanner or capture an image from your camera.

  2. Select Scanner glass as your scan source.

  3. Set the scan type to Book.

  4. Click or tap Scan.

    A preview of the scan displays the scanned pages as flattened pages separately. Choose to save the scans as one file or separate files.

Auto-Heal

Auto-Heal is a scan preference that automatically removes distracting marks, like hole punches and hands from a scanned file.

In the HP Smart app Scan window, toggle this feature on or off by clicking the Auto-Heal icon (Windows, Mac) or tap the Preference icon (iOS, Android).

Save scans as text files (Windows, Mac)

Scan a document or photo, and then save it as a PDF, Word document, or plain text file.

  1. Scan a document or photo.

  2. On the Preview window, select one of the following:

    • Searchable PDF: Searchable content that retains formatting and graphics

    • Word Document (*.docx): Editable text that retains formatting and graphics

    • Plain Text (*.txt): Editable text that does not retain formatting or graphics

  3. Click Create File.

  4. Choose if you want to retain a local Basic PDF copy, and then click Next.

  5. Select your scan destination, and then click Next.

  6. In the Your file is processing pop up, choose one of the following:

    • Activity Center: From here, you can click Text Files to check the file creation status.

    • Continue: Start another scan

    • Home: Return to the app home page. From here, you can click the Bell icon, then Text Files to check the file creation status.
