The printer displays supply messages when a non-HP, unknown, unsupported, or "used" supply is in the printer and logs a numerical error code in the Event Log.

note:
When a genuine HP supply with a "Very Low" status in the printer is removed and re-installed in a different or same printer (for testing or to shake the toner to address print quality issues), it is interpreted as a counterfeit or re-filled supply, and will cause a 10.99.40 event code when a new genuine supply is installed. -
