HP ENVY Recline 23 and 27 TouchSmart All-in-One PCs - Connecting HDMI Devices to Your Computer (Windows 8)

This document pertains to HP ENVY Recline 23 and 27 TouchSmart computers with an HDMI-in port and Windows 8.

Use your HP ENVY Recline TouchSmart 23 or 27 All-in-One to play games, watch movies, and more. Use an HDMI cable to connect with devices that display HDMI, such as game consoles, DVD players, or Android devices, and then switch the computer from PC mode to HDMI mode.

note:
If you are not using the latest version of Windows 8, some graphics and information in this document may vary. You can get the latest version from the Microsoft Store.

Connecting devices to the computer

The computer has an HDMI-in port and an audio-out/audio-in jack on the left side of the monitor.

Connecting to an HDMI device

Connect an HDMI device to your computer with an HDMI cable or a micro-HDMI to HDMI cable. Cables can be purchased at most stores that sell electronics.

An HDMI cable with a standard HDMI connector on one end, and a micro-HDMI connector on the other end.Follow these steps to connect an HDMI device to the computer:

Insert one end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI-out port of the media device. (game console, disc player, another computer, etc.)
Insert the other end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI-in port on the computer, located on the lower-left side of the monitor.

Press the HDMI IN button, which is located on the underside of the lower-left corner of the monitor.

The computer switches to HDMI mode.

To switch back to PC mode, press and hold the HDMI IN button.

Connecting to an audio device

In addition to the computer's internal microphone and speakers, you can connect headphones, a headset with microphone, or powered stereo speakers to the audio jack. When a device is connected to the jack, the internal computer speakers are disabled.

note:
The computer does not support microphone-only devices.

Using the HDMI onscreen display menu

When in HDMI mode, use the HDMI onscreen display menu to adjust the screen brightness, volume, contrast, and color settings. You can also use the HDMI onscreen display menu to switch back to PC mode.

note:
When in HDMI mode, you can adjust the volume on the computer by using the volume controls on the device that is connected. If the device does not have volume controls, use the volume option on the HDMI onscreen display menu. While in HDMI mode, the volume and mute buttons on the computer keyboard do not control the volume.

Follow these steps to use the HDMI onscreen display menu:

While in HDMI mode, open the HDMI onscreen display menu by briefly pressing the HDMI IN button, which is located on the underside of the lower-left corner of the monitor.

Press the Up arrow and Down arrow keys on the keyboard to navigate to the desired option, and then press the ENTER key on the keyboard to select the option.
Press the Up arrow and Down arrow keys on the keyboard to move the slider bar to the left or right.
Press the BACKSPACE key on the keyboard to exit an option.

HDMI onscreen display menu options
Icon	Option	Description
	PC mode	Switches the computer to PC mode from HDMI mode.
	Brightness	Adjusts the brightness of the screen while in HDMI mode.
	Volume	Adjusts the volume of the computer speakers while in HDMI mode.
	Contrast	Adjusts the level of contrast of the screen while in HDMI mode.
	Color temperature	Adjusts the color temperature of the screen. The default setting of 9300K gives the screen a cool tone, and is commonly used for playing video games. The 6500K setting gives the screen a warm tone, and is commonly used for viewing and editing photographs.
	Default	Resets the options to factory defaults.
