HP Compaq nx7000 Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing the Hard Disk Drive

Introduction
This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the hard disk drive for the HP Compaq nx7000 Notebook PC.
Minimum skill level
The End-User should possess product-specific knowledge and technical skill on how to service the system, and have familiarity with the operating system.
Tools required
Small, Phillips-head P0 screwdrivers
Parts required
  note:
Part numbers are subject to change.
The replacement part number will vary depending on the hard disk drive that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP.

Hard disk drive removal
  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Remove the two 7 mm P0 Phillips-head screws that secure the hard disk drive to the base enclosure.
  3. Lift the inside edge of the hard disk drive to unseat the hard disk drive connector from the system board.
  4. Pull the hard disk drive out of the bay.
  5. If present, remove the hard disk drive PIN extender.
      note:
    This procedure not shown in the video.
  6. Place the hard disk drive in a static dissipative bag.
Hard disk drive replacement
  1. Remove the hard disk drive from the static dissipative bag.
  2. If required, replace the hard disk drive PIN extender.
      note:
    This procedure not shown in video.
  3. Toe the outside edge of the hard disk drive into the drive bay.
  4. Press down on the hard disk drive to seat the hard disk drive connector to the system board.
  5. Replace the two 7 mm P0 Phillips-head screws.
