This document describes steps to set up the HP flat panel monitor model w2207.

Setting up the monitor

The flat-panel LCD monitor can be set up for desktop use or it can be wall mounted.

Setting up the monitor for desktop use

Use the following steps to unfold and set up the monitor for desktop use.
  warning:
Do not place the monitor face down when you first take it out of the box. The hinge can spring up and cause serious damage or personal injury.
  1. Set the panel screen-side up on a flat surface.
  2. Rotate the screen to the horizontal position.

  3. Holding the base of the monitor, lift up the panel at its top, without touching or putting pressure on the screen.
  4. Remove the shipping strap (do not cut it), and put it in a place for safe keeping.

Adjusting the monitor position

Use the following steps to adjust the monitor screen height, tilt, swivel, and orientation for a good viewing angle.
  1. Face the front of the monitor and hold the base with one hand.
  2. Move the monitor top edge toward or away from you to adjust the tilt.

      caution:
    If the hinge is extended fully and the monitor screen is tilted back too far, the double-hinged monitor can fall back.
  3. Swivel the monitor left or right for the best angle (the whole base moves).
  4. To adjust the monitor height, extend or lower the base hinge.

To pivot the monitor:
  1. Tilt the monitor backward 10 to 30 degrees.
      caution:
    This first step is very important. If the monitor is not tilted before it is pivoted, it can scratch the base surface.

  2. If the monitor is in landscape position, pivot it clockwise to portrait position.

  3. If the monitor is in portrait position, pivot it counterclockwise to landscape position.

Setting up the monitor for wall-mounted use

The monitor can be attached to a wall mounting arm that you purchase separately.

Preparing to install a wall mounting arm (not supplied)

Before mounting the monitor on a wall, a swing arm, or other mounting fixture, remove the base.
  warning:
Do not place the double-hinged monitor face down with the shipping strap intact. The hinge can spring up and cause serious damage or personal injury.
  warning:
Make sure the monitor is lying flat, with the screen down. Attempting to remove the base or pedestal from the monitor while it is upright might result in personal injury.
  caution:
The screen is fragile. Placing the monitor face-down on a flat, soft area prevents scratches, defacing, or breakage.
  1. Turn off the monitor power, and disconnect all power, video, and audio cables.
  2. Place the monitor face-down on a soft, protected surface.
    This might entail elongating the hinge and tilting the monitor back to ensure it is flat on the surface.
  3. With your fingertips, snap off the VESA cover from the back of the monitor.
  4. Remove all four screws from the VESA plate.
  5. Save the cover, screws, and base for future use.

Installing a wall mounting arm

Mount the monitor to a swing arm or other mounting fixture by following the instructions included with the mounting fixture. Ensure the monitor is safely attached.
note:
Mounting fixture is sold separately.
  1. Place the monitor panel screen down on the flat, soft area.
  2. Place the wall mounting arm onto the back of the monitor. Line up the holes of the arm with the mounting holes on the back of the monitor.
  3. Insert the four screws into the mounting holes and tighten.
  4. Reconnect the cables.
  5. Refer to the user’s manual that came with the wall mounting arm (purchased separately) for instructions on attaching it to the wall.

Connecting the monitor to the computer

  1. Turn off the computer.
  2. Connect the built-in monitor speakers to the computer, using the audio cable (green connector).

  3. To attach a VGA cable, connect one end of the 15-pin D-Sub VGA cable (blue connector) to the back of the monitor and connect the other end to the computer VGA port.

  4. To attach a DVI cable (not provided), connect one end of the 24-pin DVI cable (white connector) to the back of the monitor and connect the other end to the computer DVI port.

  5. Connect the USB hub cable from the computer to the USB In connector on the monitor.
    This enables the two USB 2.0 ports on the side of the monitor.

  6. After the USB hub connections are in place, connect up to two USB peripheral devices to your monitor (such as a USB flash drive or a digital camcorder).

  7. Connect one end of the power cord to the back of the monitor and plug the other end into a grounded outlet.

  8. Secure the cables by routing them through the cable manager.

  9. Turn on your monitor and computer.

Selecting the source of video input

Attach a VGA cable (provided), a DVI-D cable, or both to the monitor. To use DVI, your computer must have a DVI-compliant graphics card. If both cables are installed, the default input selection is DVI. To switch the input selection, use the Switch Video Input option in the OSD menu.
  1. Press the Menu button on the front of the monitor to access the OSD main menu.
  2. Navigate to Switch Video Input by pressing the + (plus) or – (minus) buttons on the monitor.
    The Switch Video Input toggles between VGA and DVI.
  3. Click Save and Return after you make your choice.

Tips and recommendations

  • Unplug the monitor from the wall outlet before cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleaning. If the screen requires additional cleaning, use an antistatic screen cleaner.
  • Do not open your monitor cabinet or attempt to service this product yourself. Adjust only those controls covered in the operating instructions. If your monitor is not operating properly, or has been dropped or damaged, contact your Compaq authorized dealer, reseller, or service provider.
  • Use only a power source and connection appropriate for this monitor, as indicated on the label/back plate of the monitor.
  • Never disconnect the monitor by pulling the cord. Unplug the power cord from the power outlet by grasping the plug firmly.
  • Turn the monitor off when not in use. You can substantially increase the life expectancy of the monitor by using a screen saver program and turning off the monitor when not in use.
  • When removing the monitor base, lay the monitor face down on a soft flat area to prevent it from getting scratched, defaced, or broken.
  • Burn-in image damage can occur on monitors that display the same static image onscreen for a prolonged period. Avoid burn-in image damage on the monitor by using a screen saver or by turning off the monitor when it is not being used.
