HP Color LaserJet 1600 and 2600n and 2605 Series Printers - Multiple Sheets of Media Are Picked When Printing from Tray 1

Issue Description
When attempting to print on media from tray 1 (single-sheet priority feed slot) the printer also picks a sheet of media from tray 2 or tray 3 resulting in two sheets being fed through the printer simultaneously.
Solution
    • Load media into tray 1 priority feed slot prior to sending the print job: Loading the media into tray 1 priority feed slot prior to sending the print job will eliminate timing issues concerning media detection in the tray 1 priority feed slot. If the job is sent prior to loading the media, timing issues can occur. If the printer has not detected media in tray 1 it will send a signal to use tray 2 or 3 (usually picking from tray 3 first if media is available) at this point it may be too late to load the tray 1 priority feed slot. If media is inserted into tray 1 priority feed slot at this point it may get pulled or 'dragged' into the paper path by the sheet of media that was pulled from tray 2 or tray 3. This can happen because media that is picked from tray 2 or tray 3 moves through the same path as paper feeding from tray 1.
    • Verify the media is inserted or fed far enough into tray 1 (single sheet priority-feed slot): When loading media into tray 1 make sure that the media is inserted or fed far enough into the priority-feed slot so that the printer’s feed rollers grab the media and pull it into the printer. You should be able to hear the feed motor turn on briefly and the media is pulled an additional ¼ to ½ inch into the priority feed slot. At this point you are ready to print. If the media is not inserted far enough into the priority feed slot the printer does not detect that there is media in tray 1 and will pick media from tray 2 or tray 3 (usually picking from tray 3 first if media is available). As paper is picked and moved from tray 2 or tray 3 into the printer, it passes through the same path as paper feeding from tray 1 and may pull the partially loaded tray 1 media into the paper path causing both sheets of media to continue through the remainder of the print path.
    • More than one sheet of media is inserted into tray one: Tray 1 is also known as the single-sheet priority feed slot and is designed for only 1 sheet of media. Feeding more than one sheet into tray one will result in multiple sheets being fed into the printer simultaneously.
