HP Compaq Notebook PCs - Steps for Removing and Replacing the Wireless LAN Mini PCI Card

This document provides instructions for the removal and replacement of the wireless LAN mini PCI card for the dv4000, dv4100, dv4200, v4000, v4100, v4200, nx7200 and nx7220 series notebook PCs.
Use the video as a guide while following the written instructions below.

note:

Step 1 - Remove the battery

  1. Slide and hold the battery release latch to the unlock position.
  2. Use your finger to lift the battery up and out of the battery compartment.

Step 2 - Remove the memory cover

  1. Loosen the three captive 5 mm P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the memory cover to the bottom of the notebook.
  2. Use your finger or a flat-bladed tool to lift the edge of the memory cover and remove it.
    note:
    The primary and expansion memory slots and the wireless LAN Mini PCI card are located under the memory cover. The memory boards and the wireless LAN Mini PCI card are slotted differently to avoid placing them in the wrong slots.

Step 3 - Remove the wireless LAN Mini PCI card

  1. Carefully disconnect the two wireless antenna cables from the Mini PCI card with small needle nose pliers or tweezers, making note of their specific location.
      caution:
    Use care when disconnecting the wireless antenna cables from the Mini PCI card. Damaged cables or connectors can degrade notebook performance.
  2. Spread the retaining tabs on each side of the Mini PCI socket simultaneously to release the Mini PCI card to the spring tension position.
  3. Grasp the Mini PCI card by the edges and pull gently to remove it.
  4. Place the Mini PCI card in a static dissipative bag.
note:
The long black antenna cable is the main antenna located in the center connector on the Mini PCI card. The short whit antenna cable is the auxiliary cable located at the edge of the Mini PCI card.

Step 4 - Replace the wireless LAN Mini PCI card

  1. Remove the Mini PCI card from the static dissipative bag.
  2. Locate the alignment slot and align it to the empty board receptacle.
  3. Grasp the Mini PCI card by the edges and push gently to replace it.
  4. Press the Mini PCI card down to latch the arms.
  5. Reconnect the two wireless antenna cables to the Mini PCI card.
      caution:
    Use care when connecting the wireless antenna cables from the Mini PCI card. Damaged cables or connectors can degrade notebook performance.

Step 5 - Replace the memory cover

  1. Toe the memory cover into the bottom case.
  2. Tighten the three captive 5 mm P1 Phillips-head screws.

Step 6 - Replace the battery

  1. Toe the battery into the bottom case.
  2. Press the battery into the battery compartment until you hear a click.
