HP LaserJet MFP M232e-M237e Printers - Setup Using HP Smart App (Android, iOS)

This document pertains to HP LaserJet M232e-M237e printers using HP Smart app in Android, Apple iOS, and iPadOS.

Setup your new HP+ printer using the HP Smart app.

bemærk:
To set up and use the printer, it must always be connected to the internet.

Step 1: Make sure the printer hardware is setup

Before installing the HP Smart app, make sure the printer hardware has been setup and is ready to be connected to your network. Remove the printer and all packing materials from the box, and connect the printer to a power source, For additional help, refer to the setup poster that came with the printer or refer to HP LaserJet MFP M232-M237 Printers - First Time Printer Setup.

Step 2: Install the HP Smart app

Download the HP Smart app onto your mobile device, and then set up your printer.

On your phone or tablet, go to 123.hp.com to get the app, and then follow the on-screen instructions to download and install the app.
After the installation completes, open the HP Smart app.
On the Welcome screen, tap Continue, and then Yes.

Doing so allows HP Smart app to collect usage data.
Tap Set Up a New Printer.

If you are installing the HP Smart app for the first time, the Sign in and Skip for now options are also displayed. Refer to What are the Sign in and Skip for now options? in the Frequently Asked Questions section for more information.
Follow the on-screen instructions to add your printer.

Make sure to enter your network password if prompted.
Select your printer, and then tap Continue.
To secure the connection by default, press the Information button on the printer.
Tap Continue again.

The mandatory firmware update screen displays.
Tap Complete Update, and then tap Finish Setup.

If the Firmware Uploading error displays, tap Exit setup, and then tap Finish Setup to restart the firmware update.
Tap Continue on the next two screens, and then tap Confirm.
Sign in to an existing HP Account. If you do not have an HP account, create a new account - refer to How do I create a new HP account? in the Frequently Asked Questions section.
Continue past the next three screens to set up your new account and redeem six months of free printing and Print plans.
Choose a plan you would like, and then specify your Shipping address and Billing details.
Tap Continue on the confirmation screen.
Load the paper into the input tray, and then tap Continue.
Install the tray cover and remove the toner sheet, and then tap Continue.

Setup is now complete. Tap Print a Document to start printing or tap Skip Printing Page to skip printing. To add your printer to mobile or desktop devices, skip to Print from other devices or view account plans.

Step 3: Print from other devices (optional)

Enable printing from other mobile devices or desktops by installing the HP Smart app.

Tap Send Link, and then type the email address.

A 123.hp.com link is sent to the invited email address.
Log in to the device, and then sign in to the email address.

Sign in or create a new HP account with the email address.
Download the HP Smart app on the device, and then add your printer.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

What are the Sign in and Skip for now options?

The Sign in and Skip for now options are also seen when you install and open the HP Smart app for the first time.

Sign in: Sign in to your HP account to use the HP Smart app features. If prompted for account verification, follow the on-screen steps to find the verification code. Login with your Username (email address) and password, follow the on-screen steps if you forget your password

Tap Add Printer, and then follow the on-screen instructions to add your printer.
Skip for now: Go to the home screen of the HP Smart app.

How do I create a new HP account?

Create an HP account to set up, print, and scan from the HP Smart app.

Enter your first name, last name, and your email address (which will be your username).
Select the country code from the drop-down list and enter your mobile number.
Create a password.
Select your country from the drop-down list.
Set the Privacy Country to US.
Tap Create Account.

Upon submission, a verification code is sent to your email or mobile phone. Enter the 6-digit alphanumeric code when prompted. A confirmation screen appears once it is verified.

How do I view my account plans?

To view your account plans, follow the steps below.

Go to the home screen of the HP Smart app and tap My Account, in the lower right of the screen.
On the Account Summary screen, tap the three lines on the left corner to view the account plans.

Can I send a print job with an incomplete setup?

Yes, but only limited pages. It includes factory-set grace pages, which is currently set at 15, that you can use to print without finishing the setup. After these 15 pages are consumed, the printer stops printing.

Do I need to complete the setup process before I can use the printer?

Yes, you receive two notifications through the HP Smart app and through the EWS and information page. The following image shows the content of these messages.

Why is the experience between LaserJet and OfficeJet Pro not the same?

A LaserJet with HP+ features is a dedicated printer model and has been setup from the factory to be used as HP+.

If the first page count in a Horizon LaserJet HP+ printer EWS is more than 15, does this mean that setup is completed?

Not necessarily. The page count includes other service pages such as the information page. For example, if you printed 4 information pages during setup and the printer stopped, the count could be 19 pages. However, such a small number count might show that the printer stopped due to an incomplete or unfinished setup.
