HP SureStore Tape Warranty Changes
From October 1, 1999 a number of developments to the warranty covering HP SureStore tape drives will take effect.
 
Customer Registration
All HP SureStore tape drives are currently covered by a three-year Express Exchange warranty. This warranty provides fast replacement of faulty products to ensure customers face the minimum downtime.
The key features of the Express Exchange warranty remain the same. However, from October 1, in order to qualify for years two and three of the warranty, customers will be required to register their drive within 30 days of purchase. The simplest possible registration process is being introduced, with the aim that it should take no more than two minutes to complete either the reply card, or the on-line web form.
The responsibility for registering the product within 30 days of purchase remains with the customer.
As well as qualifying for the additional two years of their warranty, registered customers will be able to receive significant future information such as firmware upgrades and news of major new product introductions.
 
Free Technical Assistance
Also effective from October 1, 1999, HP is introducing free technical assistance by phone, in place of the current fee-based system. Calls to HP’s Customer Care Center will be charged at national rates and technical assistance will not be charged for.
 
Product Exchange Replaces On-Site Repairs
Based on customer feedback which indicated a strong preference for product exchange, as opposed to on-site repair, from October 1, 1999 all HP SureStore tape drives will carry Express Exchange as standard. On-site system matching warranties for drives shipped prior to October 1, 1999 will be honored.
