HP DeskJet Printers - Setting Up the Printer Hardware

This document is for the HP Deskjet 2510, 2511, 2512, 2514, Deskjet Ink Advantage 2515, 2516, 2520hc, and DeskJet Ultra Ink Advantage 2529 All-in-One printers.

This document explains how to set up the physical parts of the printer. In addition to the steps in this document, the software CD includes basic video demonstrations to set the language and set up your printer hardware before installing the software. You can follow the hardware setup steps on the software installation CD or refer to this document for detailed instructions to set up the hardware.

This document includes the following steps to set up the printer:

Unpack the printer
Check the contents of the box
Connect the power cord and turn on the power
Load paper
Install the ink cartridges
Align the ink cartridges

Remarque :
The images in some of these steps might not look exactly like your printer, but the steps are the same.

Unpack the printer

Remove the tape and cardboard from the outside of the printer.

Open the output tray, open the ink cartridge access door, and then remove the tape and cardboard from inside the printer.

Remove the cardboard box containing components from inside the printer.

Close the ink cartridge access door.

Check the contents of the box

The contents might vary by country/region. See the packaging for a list of items shipped in the box.

Connect the power cord and turn on the printer

Connect the power cord to the rear of the printer, and then plug it into a wall outlet.

Turn on the printer. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before continuing.

Load paper

Raise the input tray.

Lower the output tray.

Pull out the tray extender.

Slide the paper width guide to its outermost position.

Load a stack of U.S. letter or A4 size paper into the input tray, with the short edge first and the print side facing toward you. Slide the stack of paper in until it stops.

Install the ink cartridges

Turn on the printer, if it is not already on. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before continuing.
Load plain white paper into the input tray.
Open the ink cartridge access door. The carriage moves to the center of the printer. Wait until the carriage is idle and silent before continuing.

Remarque :
The outside of the printer might not look exactly the same as your printer, but the steps are the same.
Remove the new ink cartridge from its packaging, and then pull the pink pull tab to remove the plastic tape.

Hold the ink cartridge by its sides with the nozzles toward the printer, and then insert the ink cartridge into its slot. Make sure the icon on the ink cartridge matches the icon on the slot.
- The tri-color ink cartridge () goes in the slot on the left
- The black ink cartridge () goes in the slot on the right

Push the ink cartridge forward into its slot until it snaps into place.

Repeat these steps to replace the other ink cartridge, if necessary.
Close the ink cartridge access door.

Wait about 30 seconds for the alignment page to automatically print.

Remarque :
The printer only prints an alignment page automatically when you install a new ink cartridge.

Align the ink cartridges

Lift the scanner lid.
Place the alignment page with the print side down on the right-front corner of the scanner glass. See the engraved guide next to the scanner glass for help loading the alignment page.

Close the scanner lid.
Press the Scan button () to begin the scan. The printer automatically aligns the cartridges.
