Introduction

This document explains the basics of setting up and configuring the printer hardware.

Setting up a new multifunction printer

Follow these steps to set up the hardware for your new product.

Step one: Unpack the multifunction printer

  1. Unpack the product.

  2. Remove all the orange shipping tape and packaging material from the product.

Step two: Attach the control panel faceplate and paper supports

  1. Install the control panel faceplate.

  2. Install the automatic document feeder (ADF) input tray.

Step three: Load plain paper

  1. Adjust the paper guides to match the width of the paper you are loading.

  2. Load paper with the top forward and the side to be printed on facing down.

Step four: Install the print cartridge

  1. Open the print cartridge door.

  2. Remove the new print cartridge from its packaging and rock the cartridge multiple times to ensure uniform printing. Remove the orange cover, and then pull the orange tab straight out to remove the sealing tape.

  3. Insert the cartridge into the product until it is firmly in place.

  4. Close the print cartridge door.

Step five: Connect the handset, phone, and power cables

  1. Connect the handset to the back of the product.

  2. Connect the phone cord for the fax line to the back of the product.

  3. Connect the power cord to the back of the product and into an electrical outlet.

  4. Turn on the power using the power switch on the back of the product.

Step six: Select the language/region

Follow the instructions on the control panel to set the default language and location. The product automatically restarts after selecting the location.
You have completed the hardware portion of your product setup.
If you are using this product as a stand-alone fax, skip to the 'Configuring your product' section of this document.

Configuring your product

If you did not complete a recommended install on your computer, you will need to manually set the time, date, and fax header.

Setting the time and date

  1. Press the Setup () button.
  2. Use the arrow buttons ( or ) to select System setup, and then press OK.
  3. Use the arrow buttons ( or ) to select Time/Date, and then press OK.
  4. Use the arrow buttons ( or ) to select the 12-hour or 24-hour clock, and then press OK.
  5. Use the alphanumeric buttons to enter the current time.
  6. Confirm the time.
    • For the 12-hour clock, use the arrow buttons ( or ) to move past the fourth character. Select 1 for a.m. and 2 for p.m., and then press OK.
    • For the 24 hour clock, press OK.
  7. Use the arrow buttons ( or ) to select the date format, and then press OK.
  8. Use the alphanumeric buttons to enter the current date. Use two digits to specify the month, day, and year, and then press OK.

Setting the fax header

  1. Press the Setup () button.
  2. Use the arrow buttons ( or ) to select Fax setup, and then press OK.
  3. Use the arrow buttons ( or ) to select Fax header, and then press OK.
  4. Use the alphanumberic buttons to enter the fax number and a company name or header, and then press OK.
    Remarque :
    The maximum number of characters for the fax number is 20; use up to 25 characters for the company name.

Printing a self test page

To review current settings, print a self test page from the control panel.
  1. Press the Setup () button.
  2. Use the arrow buttons ( or ) to select Reports, select Config report, and then press OK.
    A self test page prints.
