HP LaserJet Enterprise MFP, HP OfficeJet Enterprise MFP, HP PageWide Enterprise MFP - Copy or scan pages from books or other bound documents

Use the Book Mode feature to copy or scan pages from a bound original document, such as a book, and save the pages as individual scanned images. The feature organizes the scanned images and arranges the pages in the correct order, as in the original document. Print the pages using the copy feature, or save the scanned pages to a file in the printer memory.

The feature creates scanned images that are letter or A4 size. If the original document is smaller, the feature retains the original size and does not scale the image to fit the paper. If the original document is larger, the feature crops the pages and does not scale the images to fit the paper.

Note:

The document must be bound on the left edge. The feature does not work with the front and back covers.

Note:

The steps to copy or scan pages from books vary according to the type of control panel on the printer.

FutureSmart 3 touchscreen control panel

FutureSmart 4 or 5 touchscreen control panel

Begin by reviewing the information in the "Book placement on the scanner glass" section below, and then go to the section for your printer control-panel type and follow the steps to scan or copy pages from a book.

Book placement on the scanner glass

Place the book on the scanner glass with the top edge of the book along the rear of the scanner glass. Align the spine of the book with the mark on the rear, center of the scanner glass.

CAUTION:

Some types of bindings, such as spiral bindings, can damage the protective covering on the flatbed cover, so make sure to close the scanner lid gently.

FutureSmart 3

Follow these steps if your printer has a FutureSmart 3 touchscreen control panel.

Decide whether to copy the pages and print them now, or to scan the pages and save them in the printer memory to share or print at a later time:
- Make a printed copy: From the Home screen on the printer control panel, touch the Copy button.
- Scan to the printer memory: From the Home screen on the printer control panel, touch the Save to Device Memory button. Touch the name of the folder where you want to save the job, or touch New Folder to create a new folder.
Touch the More Options button until the Book Mode option displays, and then touch Book Mode.
On the Book Mode screen, touch Book Mode on, and then touch the OK button to enable the feature and return to the main Copy menu.
Change other settings for the copy job, as desired.

Note:
Some copy settings conflict with the Book Mode feature. After enabling Book Mode, these settings will be unavailable in the Copy menu.
Touch the Start button to begin scanning.
The printer prompts for the pages to scan. Select one of these options, and then touch Scan:
- Scan both sides: Scans the left and right pages
- Skip left page: Scans the right-hand page of the book only
  
  Note:
  When placed face-down on the glass, the right-hand page is on the left.
- Skip right page: Scans the left-hand page of the book only
  
  Note:
  When placed face-down on the glass, the left-hand page is on the right.
The printer begins scanning the pages. When it finishes the first scan, it prompts for the next pages to scan. Follow the prompts to continue scanning.
When all pages are scanned, touch the Finish button. The printer prints or saves the pages (depending on your selection in step 1).

FutureSmart 4 or 5

Follow these steps if your printer has a FutureSmart 4 or 5 touchscreen control panel.

Note:

On printers with a FutureSmart 4 or 5 touchscreen control panel, the steps to copy pages from a book and print them now are different from the steps to scan the pages and save them in the printer memory to be shared or printed at a later time.

Decide which option to use and then click the applicable section below and follow the steps to complete the task.

Option one: Copy and print now (FutureSmart 4 or 5)

Follow these steps to copy pages from a book and print them now.

From the Home screen on the printer control panel, touch Copy, and then touch Options in the lower left corner.
In the list of options, scroll to and touch Scan Mode.
On the right side of the screen, touch Book Mode, and then touch Done.
Select other options in the list to change the settings for the copy job, as needed. Touch Done to save the changes, if prompted.
Touch Copy to begin scanning.

A Book Mode prompt will display on the control panel. Follow the prompts to scan additional pages.
When you are finished scanning, touch Done to begin printing the pages.

Option two: Scan and save to the printer memory (FutureSmart 4 or 5)

Follow these steps to scan pages from a book and save them in the printer memory to be shared or printed at a later time.

From the Home screen on the printer control panel, touch Scan, and then touch Scan to Job Storage.

Note:
If prompted, enter your user name and password.
Under Folder, select the default storage folder.

Or, if the printer administrator has configured the option, you can create a new folder. Follow these steps to create a new folder:
1. Touch the New Folder icon .
2. Touch the New Folder field to open a touch keypad, type a name for the folder, and then touch OK.
Make sure that you have selected the correct folder.
Touch the Job Name field to open the touch keypad, type a name for the job, and then touch OK.
Touch Options in the lower left corner, and then scroll to and touch Scan Mode.
On the right side of the screen, touch Book Mode, and then touch Done.
Select other options in the list to change the settings for the copy job, as needed. Touch Done to save the changes, if prompted.
Touch the right pane on the screen to preview the scan.

A Book Mode prompt will display on the control panel.
Touch Scan to scan the current pages on the scanner. To scan more pages, adjust the book and touch Scan again.
When you are finished scanning, touch Done, and then touch Save to save the job in the printer memory.
