HP Computers - Unreadable Characters in Command Console

DESCRIPTION

Characters typed in the command prompt window are unreadable. This occurs on computers where the selected language is either Arabic or Hebrew.

The issue occurs because the Command Shell (CMD.exe) has not been mapped to the correct code page (character set).

SCOPE

Information in this document applies to the following:

Configuration:

Arabic or Hebrew language images

Computers:

Any computer running any of the operating systems below

Operating Systems:

Microsoft Windows 10
Microsoft Windows 8
Microsoft Windows 7

RESOLUTION

Work around the issue by manually changing the code page as follows:

Open CMD.exe (command prompt).
Change the code page:

- For Arabic: type chcp 1256, then press Enter.

- For Hebrew: type chcp 1255, then press Enter.
This has to be repeated each time you open a new command prompt.
