Action Requested
HP’s primary concern is for the safety of our customers. Because these batteries pose a fire and burn hazard, i
t is essential that you check or recheck your battery, even if you did so previously and were informed that it was not affected, by visiting the HP Battery Recall website at www.hp.com/go/batteryprogram2018 as soon as possible. If you have already replaced your battery through the recall program, you do NOT need to check your battery again.
HP released an updated BIOS, in August 2019, to include batteries added by the expansion. The updated BIOS will put the battery into “Battery Safety Mode”. If the validation indicates your battery is affected, discontinue use of the battery immediately by placing it in Battery Safety Mode. Visit the HP Battery Recall Web site at
www.hp.com/go/batteryprogram2018 for information on the BIOS update. Once the battery is put into Safety Mode, you may continue to safely use your notebook or mobile workstation by connecting to an HP power adaptor.
note:
UEFI Diags prior to version 6.6.0.0 will not be able to recognize that a battery was put in Battery Safety Mode and could provide inconclusive results. Version 6.6.0.0 and later will recognize Battery Safety Mode.
note:
You may be told that your battery is not affected. Less than 3% of the potentially affected products sold during this time period (December 2015 through October 2018) include batteries that are affected by this safety recall and the expansion.
note:
If the validation tool indicates your battery is not affected, you may continue to use your system and no battery replacement is necessary.
Resolution, if the battery is affected:
If the validation process indicates that a battery is affected, the customer should cease use of the battery immediately by placing it in Battery Safety Mode. Customers may continue to use their notebook PC or mobile workstation after Battery Safety Mode is enabled by connecting to their HP power adapter.
Many of these batteries are internal to the system which means they are not customer replaceable. Customers should not remove them on their own. Customers may order free batteries and battery replacement services to be provided by an authorized technician on the HP Recall website at
www.hp.com/go/batteryprogram2018 .
HP will provide a replacement battery and battery replacement service by an authorized technician for each verified, affected battery, at no cost.
Replacement Notebook PC and Mobile Workstation Battery Warranty
The replacement battery has a 90 day warranty from the date the battery was received. Any extended warranty coverage or HP Care Pack associated with your Notebook is unaffected.
Recommended Action: Please follow the resolution steps outlined above.
