HP LaserJet M26 Printers - First Time Printer Setup

This document is for HP LaserJet Pro MFP M26a and 26nw printers.
To set up a printer for the first time, remove the printer and all packing materials from the box, load paper into the input tray, connect the power cable, set control panel preferences, and then download and install the printer software.
note:

Step 1: Remove the printer from the box and prepare the cartridge

Remove the printer from the box and all tape, stickers, and packing materials from the printer.
The contents might vary by country/region. See the packaging for a list of items shipped in the box.
  1. Remove the printer from the box.
  2. Remove all tape and packing materials from the outside of the printer, and then remove the film from the printer control panel.
  3. Open the scanner assembly, and then open the top cover.

  4. Remove the protective foam from the toner cartridge access area.

  5. Remove the toner cartridge, and then set it aside in a secure place.

  6. Remove packaging from inside the printer.

  7. Grasp both sides of the toner cartridge, and then gently rock the toner cartridge back and forth to distribute the toner.

  8. Remove the orange clip from the toner cartridge.

  9. Pull the orange tab to remove the sealing tape from the toner cartridge.

  10. Align the toner cartridge with the tracks inside the printer, and then push the toner cartridge until it is firmly seated.

  11. Close the top cover, and then close the scanner assembly.

  12. Recycle the packing materials.

Step 2: Load plain paper in the input tray

Load plain U.S. letter or A4 paper in the input tray.
  1. Push in the input tray until it snaps into place.

  2. Slide the paper guides to their outermost positions.

  3. Load a stack of U.S. letter or A4 size paper into the input tray with the short edge forward and the print side up. Push the stack into the tray until it stops.

  4. Slide in the paper guides until they rest against the edges of the paper.
    note:
    Do not push the paper guides so far in that they bind the paper.

Step 3: Connect the power cord, and then turn on the printer

Plug the printer into a wall outlet, and then turn on the printer.
  1. Connect the power cord to the rear of the printer, and then plug the other end of the power cord into an electrical outlet.

  2. Turn on the printer.

Step 4: Set your language preference (printers with a 2-line display )

Set the language preference for your printer. Skip to the step to install the printer software if your printer does not have a 2-line display.
  1. On the printer control panel, press the Setup button .
  2. Press the right arrow until System Setup displays, and then press OK.
  3. Select Language, and then press OK.
  4. If necessary, press the right arrow to find the desired language in the list.
  5. Select your desired language, and then press OK.

Step 5: Install the printer software

Download the latest version of the printing software from 123.hp.com/laserjet, and then follow the on-screen instructions to install the software.
