Accessing the Service Menu and Starting the Printer in Diagnostic Mode for the HP Latex 600, 820, and 850, HP Scitex LX800, and HP Designjet L65500 Printer Series

This document is for HP Latex 600 (HP Scitex LX600 Industrial Printer), 820 (HP Scitex LX820 Industrial Printer), and 850 (HP Scitex LX850 Industrial Printer), HP Scitex LX800, and HP Designjet L65500 printers.
This document provides the steps to access the Service menu and the Diagnostic mode on the printer front panel. In order to perform certain service or maintenance tasks, access the Service menu or the printer in Diagnostic mode. The procedures in this document should only be performed by a qualified user or when directed by an HP Customer Care representative.

Accessing the Service menu

Steps to access the Service menu for service or maintenance tasks.
  1. The printer must be powered on and fully initialized in Normal mode.
  2. On the printer front panel, press the down arrow () button until the plotter icon is highlighted.

  3. Press the OK button, or the check mark () button, depending on your printer's front panel.
  4. With the Setup menu displayed, press and hold the down arrow button, and then press and hold the cancel () button. Release both buttons simultaneously.
  5. The front panel displays the Service menu, if successful.

  6. Use the Service menu as directed by the HP Customer Care representative.
  7. Press the cancel or back () button to exit the Service menu.

Starting the printer in Diagnostic Mode

Steps to start the printer in Diagnostic Mode for service or maintenance tasks.
  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. Press and hold the cancel button and the down arrow button, and then press and hold the power button. Continue to press and hold all three buttons until the LED indicator light on the front panel goes from steady red to green, and then changes to blinking green.

    1. Press and hold the cancel button
    2. Press and hold the down arrow button
    3. Press and hold the power button
    4. LED indicator light. Release buttons when LED changes from steady green to blinking green.
  3. Repeat the steps above if the printer fails to start in Diagnostic Mode.
  4. Perform the necessary tasks in Diagnostic Mode as directed by the HP Customer Care representative.
  5. Exit the Diagnostic Mode by turning the printer off, and then turn the printer on. Allow the printer to initialize normally to resume regular operation.

Forcing the printer into Diagnostic Mode

Steps to force the printer into Diagnostic Mode for service or maintenance tasks.
If you are unable to get the printer to start in Diagnostic Mode using the front panel button combination, it is possible to force the printer to boot into Diagnostic Mode using a Service menu option.
  caution:
If this option is enabled in the Service menu, the printer will start up in Diagnostic Mode every time until the selection is changed.
  1. The printer must be on and fully initialized in Normal mode.
  2. On the printer front panel, press the down arrow () button until the plotter icon is highlighted.

  3. Press the OK button, or the check mark () button, depending on your printer's front panel.
  4. With the Setup menu displayed, press and hold the down arrow button, and then press and hold the cancel () button. Release both buttons simultaneously.
    The front panel displays the Service menu, if successful.

  5. Use the up or down arrow to highlight 1. Service Utilities Menu, and then press the OK button.
  6. Use the arrow buttons to highlight 1.0 Force Diagnostic Mode, and then press the OK button.
  7. The front panel will display a confirmation message. To confirm the Force Diagnostic Boot, press the OK button. Press the cancel () button to exit without saving the changes.

  8. Turn the printer off and then turn on the printer. Allow the printer to initialize. The printer will start in Diagnostic Mode.
  9. Perform the necessary tasks in Diagnostic Mode as directed by the HP Customer Care representative. Once the tasks have been completed, the printer must be reconfigured to boot normally.
  10. Use the arrow buttons to highlight 0. Purge & Setup Menu, and then press the OK button.
  11. Use the arrow buttons to highlight 0.6 Force Normal Boot, and then press the OK button.
    The front panel will display a confirmation message to Configure normal boot.

  12. Press the OK button to exit the menu.
  13. Turn the printer off and then turn on the printer. Allow the printer to initialize. The printer will start in Normal mode.
