Removing and Replacing a Memory Module for HP Pavilion g6-2000, g6-2100, g6-2200 and g6-2300 Notebook PCs

This document applies to HP Pavilion g6-2xxx series notebook computers.

Before you begin

  • Turn off the computer. Disconnect the Ethernet or modem cable. Disconnect the power cord.
  • Transfer the computer to a clear, flat, stable work surface over a non-carpeted floor.
  • HP strongly recommends the use of an anti-static wrist strap and a conductive foam pad when working on the computer.
  • Do not remove a component from its protective packaging until you are ready to install it.
  warning:
The edges of metal panels can cut skin. Be careful not to slide skin along any interior metal edge of the computer.
  warning:
Before starting, power off the computer and wait for components to cool before starting these procedures.
  caution:
This product contains components that can be damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD). To reduce the chance of ESD damage, work over a non-carpeted floor, use a static dissipative work surface (such as a conductive foam pad), and wear an ESD wrist strap connected to a grounded surface.

Removing a memory module

  warning:
Make sure the computer is disconnected from power before starting.
Follow the steps in this section to remove a memory module.
note:
The primary and expansion memory slots are both located under the service door. The primary memory slot is located on the bottom and the expansion memory slot is located on top. Remove an expansion memory module before removing the primary memory module.

Remove the battery.

Remove the service cover.

Push both arms outward simultaneously to release the memory module to the spring tension position.

Grasp the memory module by the edges and pull up gently to remove it.
  caution:
Use care to not touch the memory chips when handling a memory module. Touching the memory chips could damage or destroy the memory.

Replacing a memory module

Use the steps in this section to replace a memory module.
Step 1
Align the notch in a memory module with the key in the memory module slot.

Insert a memory module at an angle into the slot.
  caution:
Use care to not touch the memory chips when handling a memory module. Touching the memory chips could damage or destroy the memory.

Press the memory module down until it latches.
