HP ProBook 4431s Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing the USB Board
Minimum skill level
The end user should possess product-specific knowledge and technical skill on how to service the system, and have familiarity with the operating system.
Tools required
Small, Phillips-head (P1) screwdriver.

Part numbers are subject to change.
The replacement part number will vary depending on the USB board that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP.

note:

Remove the battery. Click here for instructions on how to remove the battery.

Remove the service door. Click here for instructions on how to remove the service door.

Remove the hard disk drive. Click here for instructions on how to remove the hard disk drive.

Remove the optical disk drive. Click here for instructions on how to remove the optical disk drive.

Remove the keyboard. Click here for instructions on how to remove the keyboard.

Remove the top cover. Click here for instructions on how to remove the top cover.

Gently lift up on the locking bar of the USB board ZIF connector and remove the USB board ribbon cable.
note:
Use care to prevent damaging the ZIF connector and ribbon cable. -
Lift the USB board ribbon cable from the base enclosure.
note:
The USB board ribbon cable is held in place with double-sided adhesive. -
Remove the one 4-mm P1 Phillips-head screw that secures the USB board to the base enclosure.

Lift and remove the USB board and ribbon cable from the base enclosure.
-
Place the USB board and cable in a static dissipative bag.
USB board replacement

Grasp the USB board by the edges and remove it from the static dissipative bag.

Place the USB board over the screw holes and alignment pins built into the base enclosure.
-
Replace the one 4-mm P1 Phillips-head screw that secures the USB board to the base enclosure.

Insert the USB board ribbon cable into the ZIF connector on the system board and gently press down on the ZIF connector locking bar.
note:
Use care to prevent damaging the ZIF connector and ribbon cable. -
Press down on the USB board ribbon cable to adhere it to the base enclosure.
