HP All-in-One Printers - HP printer Icon is Missing in Devices and Printers After a Network Installation in Windows 7

Issue

When you open the Devices and Printers window, the HP printer icon is missing. However, the printer is functioning correctly.

Solution

Follow these steps to uninstall the software, update Windows 7, and then reinstall the software.

Step one: Uninstall the HP printer software

  1. Search Windows for your printer model name, and then click the printer name in the list of results.
    HP Printer Assistant/HP Solution Center opens.
  2. Click Uninstall, and then follow the on-screen instructions.
    The software uninstalls.

Step two: Make sure Windows 7 has the most recent updates

  1. On the Windows taskbar, click the Windows icon , click Control Panel, click System and Security, and then click Windows Update.
  2. Click Check for updates, and then follow the on-screen instructions to install all non-optional Windows updates.

Step three: Download and install the HP printer software

  1. Turn on the printer.
  2. Disconnect the USB cable from the printer, if necessary. The software installation prompts you to connect the cable if needed.
  3. If a Let's identify your product to get started page displays, click Printer, type your printer model number, and then click Submit.
  4. If you need to change the operating system, click Change, select your version, and then click Change.
  5. Under the Driver heading, click Download for the full software package, or click Basic Drivers for other driver options.
