HP Compaq dc5800 Small Form Factor PC - Removing and Replacing the Hard Drive

Introduction
This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the Hard Drive for the HP Compaq dc5800 Small Form Factor PC.
Minimum skill level
The End-User should possess product-specific knowledge and technical skill on how to service the system, and have familiarity with the operating system.

The replacement part number will vary depending on the Hard Drive that is being replaced. If a part is listed as 'Yes' under 'Requires Return' then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP.

In this case either the Original Spare or the Modified Spare may be shipped which will not affect performance or functionality of the unit.

Hard Drive removal
  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Rotate the drive cage to the up position.
  3. Rotate the power supply to the up position.
  4. Disconnect the power and data cables from the back of the drive.
  5. While pressing on the drive release latch, slide the drive forward and up out of the drive bay.
      note:
    If the replacement drive does not include guide screws, remove and reuse the screws from this drive.
Hard Drive replacement
  1. Align guide screws on the drive with the J-slots on the drive bay.
  2. Push the drive into the drive bay and then slide it back until it locks into place.
  3. Connect the data and power cables to the drive.
  4. Lower the power supply to the down position.
  5. Lower the drive cage to the down position.
