HP Compaq dx2390 Microtower PC - Removing and Replacing Memory

Introduction
This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the Memory for the HP Compaq dx2390 Microtower PC.
Minimum skill level
The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.

The replacement part number will vary depending on the Memory that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP.

  note:

If the unit contains a part that is labeled with the Modified Spare number, the Modified Spare must be ordered as the replacement part. Memory removal
  note:
This system uses PC2-6400 800 MHz DIMMS. There are two DIMM sockets on the system board. The sockets are labeled DIMM1 and DIMM2. If you are installing one memory module only, put it in slot DIMM1 (the slot closest to the processor).
  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to the product or loss of data.
  2. Push down and out on the memory socket latches to release the memory module.
  3. Pull the memory module up and out of the socket.
Memory replacement
  1. Ensure that the memory socket latches are pushed down and away from the memory socket.
  2. Match the notch on the memory module with the key in the memory socket.
  3. Push the module down firmly into the socket until the latches snap into place and the module is fully seated.
