HP Color LaserJet CP1510 Series - Control Panel Menu Definitions

Introduction
This document describes the features of the product control panel and the options in the control panel menus.
Understand the control panel features
The product has the following lights and buttons on the control panel.

Ready light: When the green light is on, the product is ready to print. It blinks when the product is receiving print data.

Attention light: The amber attention light blinks when a cartridge is empty or the product requires attention.
  note:
The attention light does not blink if more than one cartridge is empty.

Control panel display: The display provides information about the product. Control panel menu options appear on this display.

Cartridge status gauges: These gauges show the estimated ink level for each cartridge (black, yellow, cyan, and magenta).
If the ink level is unknown, a question mark (?) appears. This can occur in the following circumstances:
  • The cartridge is missing or installed incorrectly
  • The cartridge is defective
  • The cartridge might not be an HP cartridge

Left arrow (): Use the left arrow button to navigate through the menus or to decrease a value that appears on the control panel display.

OK: Press the OK button for the following actions.
  • Open the control panel menus
  • Open a submenu displayed on the control panel display
  • Select a menu item
  • Clear an error
  • Begin a print job in response to a prompt on the control panel display

Right arrow (): Use the right arrow button to navigate through the menus or to increase a value that appears on the control panel display.

Back arrow (): Use the back arrow button for the following actions:
  • Exit the control panel menus
  • Scroll back to a previous menu in a submenu list
  • Scroll back to a previous menu item in a submenu list without saving changes to the menu item

Cancel (): Press the cancel button to cancel a print job when the attention light is blinking or to exit the control panel menus.
Use the control panel menus
Press OK to open the menus. Use the following to navigate through the menus.
  • Press the left arrow () and the right arrow () to scroll through the menu options on the control panel display.
  • Press OK to select a menu option. An asterisk (*) appears next to the active selection.
  • Press the back arrow () to return to a previous menu.
  • Press Cancel () to exit the menu without saving any changes.
The following sections describe the options for each of the main menus.
Reports menu
Use the Reports menu to print reports that provide information about the product.

Demo page
Select to print a color page that demonstrates print quality.
Menu structure
Select to print a map of the control panel menu layout. The active settings for each menu are listed.
Config report
Select to print a list of all the product settings, including network information if the product is connected to a network.
Supplies status
Select to print the status for each cartridge, which includes the following information:
  • Estimated pages remaining
  • Part number
  • Number of pages printed
Network report
Select to print a list of all product network settings.
Usage page
Select to print a page that lists printer command language (PCL) pages, PCL 6 pages, PostScript (PS) pages, pages that were jammed or mis-picked in the product, monochrome (black and white) or color pages, and reports the page count for each.
  note:
For the Color LaserJet CP1518ni only, this option also lists the number of memory cards inserted, number of PictBridge connections, and the PictBridge page count.
PCL font list
Select to print a list of all the PCL fonts that are installed.
PS font list
Select to print a list of all the PS fonts that are installed.
PCL6 font list
Select to print a list of all the PCL6 fonts that are installed.
Color usage log
Select to print a report that shows the user name, application name, and color usage information on a job-by-job basis.
Service page
Select to print the service report.
Diagnostics page
Select to print calibration and color diagnostics pages.
System setup menu
Use this menu to configure basic product settings. The System setup menu has several submenus. Each is described in the following table.

Select one of the following submenu items to determine the action the product takes when a print job requires a paper size or type that is not available, or when a specified tray is empty:
Wait forever: The products waits to print until the appropriate paper is loaded into the paper tray and you press OK. This is the default setting.
Override: The product prints on a different paper size or type after a specified delay.
Cancel: The product automatically cancels the print job after a specified delay.
When selecting either Override or Cancel, specify the delay time when prompted. Press the right arrow () to increase the time, up to 3600 seconds. Press the left arrow () to decrease the time.

Calibration mode
Set the calibration timing and the calibration mode by using the following submenu items:
After power on: Select how many minutes after the product is turned on that it calibrates. The default setting is 15 minutes.
Calibrate now: Select this option to calibrate immediately. If a print job is processing, the product calibrates after the job is complete. If an error message appears, clear the error before trying to calibrate again.
Calibration mode: Select the type of calibration that the product uses during the calibration process.
  • Normal: The standard calibration mode setting.
  • Full: The extended calibration mode setting. This calibration takes longer.

Select one of the following submenu items to determine the action the product takes when it determines that a cartridge is empty.
Override out: Select this option to be able to continue to print until the print quality decreases.
Stop at out: Select this option to require that the cartridge be replaced before printing can continue. This is the default setting.
Cartridge low
(1-20)
The percentage threshold determines when the product begins reporting low toner. The message is either reported on the control panel display or using the toner LED, if it exists. Use the arrow keys to adjust the threshold. The default setting is ten percent (10%).

Enable color: Select to allow the print job to print in either monochrome (black and white) or color depending on the specifications of the job.
Disable color: Select to disable color printing. All jobs print in monochrome (black and white).
Courier font

Select either a Regular or a Dark version of the Courier font. The default is Regular.
Display contrast

Darker
Darkest
Lightest
Lighter
Select the level of contrast for the control panel display from Medium, Darker, Darkest, Lightest, or Lighter. The default setting is Medium.
Network configuration menu
Use this menu to establish network configuration settings.

Automatic: Select to automatically configure all the TCP/IP settings. This is the default setting.
Manual: Select to manually configure the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway.

When connecting the product directly to a computer with an Ethernet cable, select On or Off depending on the computer being used.
The default setting is On.
Network services

This item is used by the network administrator to limit the network services available on this product.
Select the appropriate network and then select On or Off. The default setting is On.
Memory card

Select On or Off. When turned on, this setting allows file sharing between an installed memory card and the product.
The default setting is Off.
Show IP address on control panel

Select No or Yes. When turned on, the product IP address appears on the control panel display.
The default setting is No.
Restore defaults
Press OK to restore the network configuration settings to the default values.
Service menu
Use this menu to restore default settings, clean the product, and activate special modes that affect printouts.

Restore defaults
Set all customized settings to the factory default values.
PowerSave
Set how long the product remains idle before it enters PowerSave mode. The product automatically exits PowerSave mode when you send a print job or press a button on the control panel.
The default setting is 15 minutes.
Cleaning mode
Clean the product if toner specks or other marks are visible on printouts. The cleaning process removes dust and excess toner from the paper path.
After selecting this option, load plain paper in tray 1, and then press OK to start the cleaning process. Wait until the process is complete. Discard the page that prints.
USB speed
Set the USB speed to High or Full. For the product to operate at high speed, it must be set to High and it must be connected to an EHCI host controller that is also operating at high speed.
This menu item does not reflect the current operating speed of the product. The default setting is High.
Less paper curl
Select On or Off. If printed pages are consistently curled, turn this option on to set the product to a mode that reduces curl.
The default setting is Off.
Archive print
Select On or Off. If printing pages that will be stored for a long time, turn this option on to set the product to a mode that reduces toner smearing and dusting.
The default setting is Off.
Use the product control panel in shared environments
If the product is shared with other users, adhere to the following guidelines for successful product operation:
  • Consult the system administrator before making changes to control panel settings. Changing control panel settings could affect other print jobs.
  • Coordinate with other users before changing the default printer font or downloading soft fonts. Coordinating these operations conserves memory and avoids unexpected results.
  • Be aware that switching product personalities, such as switching emulated PS to PCL, affects the printouts for other users.
  note:
The network operating system might automatically protect the print job of one user from the effects of other print jobs. Consult the system administrator for more information.
