HP Compaq dc7700 Small Form Factor PC - Removing and Replacing the USB/audio assembly

Introduction
This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the USB/audio assembly for the HP Compaq dc7700 Small Form Factor PC.
Minimum skill level
The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.
Tools required
Torx #15 (T15) screwdriver.

The replacement part number will vary depending on the USB/audio assembly that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP.

USB/audio assembly removal
  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Rotate the drive cage to the upright position.
  3. Disconnect the audio and USB cables from the system board.
  4. Pull the cables through the routing post under the drive cage.
  5. From the front of the chassis, remove the two Torx-15 retaining screws.
  6. Push the assembly through the chassis bracket, and then lift and remove it from the chassis.
USB/audio assembly replacement
  1. Position the assembly into its slot in the chassis.
  2. Replace the two retaining screws.
  3. Thread the audio and USB cables through the routing post under the drive cage.
  4. Connect the audio and USB cables to the system board.
  5. Lower the drive cage.
