HP Photosmart C6100 and C7100 Series All-in-Ones - Sending a Fax

Introduction
There are three ways to send faxes using the HP All-in-One. Faxes can be sent from the control panel, manually from a phone, or using a monitor dialog. Refer to the instructions below for each option.
  note:
Before you begin faxing, make sure the HP All-in-One has been set up properly for faxing. For more information, see the User Guide that came with the HP All-in-One.
Send a basic fax
To send a single or multiple-page black-and-white fax by using the control panel, follow these steps.
  note:
If you frequently send faxes to the same numbers, you can set up speed dials. For more information on setting up speed dials, see Set up speed dialing in the User Guide that came with the HP All-in-One.
  1. Press the Fax Menu button. The Enter Fax Number screen displays.
  2. Enter the fax number by using the keypad. Press the Up arrow to redial the last number dialed, or press the Down arrow to access speed dials.
  3. Press the Start Fax Black button or Start Fax Color button.
If the most recently sent black-and-white fax is stored in memory, the Fax Mode screen displays. Press 1 to send a new fax.
  4. When prompted, load the original print side down on the right front corner of the glass or in the automatic document feeder (ADF) of the C6100 series only.
  5. Press the Start Fax Black button or Start Fax Color button again.
  6. When the Another Page? prompt displays, do one of the following:
If you have another page to fax
    1. Press 1 to select Yes.
    2. When prompted, load the next page of the original (print side down) on the right front corner of the glass (or in the ADF of the C6100 series only).
    3. Press the Start Fax Black or Start Fax Color button.
After all the pages are scanned, the HP All-in-One sends the fax.
If you do not have another page to fax
    • Press 2 to select No.
Send a fax manually from a phone
  1. Dial the fax number by using the keypad on the phone that is connected to the HP All-in-One.
      note:
You must use the keypad on the phone to dial the number. Do not use the keypad on the control panel of the HP All-in-One.
  2. If the recipient answers the telephone, you can engage in a conversation before sending the fax.
      note:
If a fax machine answers the call, you will hear fax tones from the receiving fax machine. Proceed to the next step to transmit the fax.
  3. Once you are ready to send the fax, press Fax Menu. The Fax Mode screen displays.
  4. Press 1 to send a new fax.
      note:
If the most recently sent black-and-white fax is stored in memory, the second option on the Fax Mode screen enables you to send the fax in memory.
  5. When prompted, load the original (print side down) on the right front corner of the glass (or in the ADF of the C6100 series only).
  6. Press the Start Fax Black or Start Fax Color button.
      note:
If you were speaking with the recipient before sending the fax, inform the recipient that they should press Start on their fax machine after they hear fax tones.
    • Press 2 to select No.
        note:
The telephone line is silent while the fax is transmitting. At this point, you can hang up the telephone. If you want to continue speaking with the recipient, remain on the line until the fax transmission is complete.
Send a fax using monitor dialing
Monitor dialing allows you to dial a number from the control panel as you would dial a regular telephone. When sending a fax using monitor dialing, you can hear the dial tones, telephone prompts, or other sounds through the speakers on the HP All-in- One. This enables you to respond to prompts while dialing, as well as control the pace of your dialing.
  note:
If you want to use monitor dialing to send a fax with a calling card, HP recommends you create a speed dial entry to store the personal identification number (PIN) for your calling card. If you do not store the PIN in a speed dial entry, you might not be able to enter the PIN fast enough. The HP All-in-One might begin transmitting fax tones before you are able to finish entering your PIN, and the call will fail.
  1. Press the Fax Menu button. The Fax Mode screen displays.
  2. Press the Start Fax Black or Start Fax Color button.
  3. When prompted, load the original (print side down) on the right front corner of the glass (or in the ADF of the C6100 series only).
  4. Press the Start Fax Black button.
The Enter Fax Number screen displays again.
  6. Once you hear the dial tone, enter the number by using the keyboard on the control panel.
      note:
If you were speaking with the recipient before sending the fax, inform the recipient that they should press Start on their fax machine after they hear fax tones.
  7. Follow any prompts that might occur. The fax is sent when the receiving fax machine answers.
      note:
If you are using a calling card to send the fax, when prompted to enter your PIN, press the down arrow to access the speed dial entry where you have your PIN stored, then press OK to select it.
