Apple iPod from HP Digital Audio Players - Frequently Asked Questions about iPod and iTunes

This document pertains to HP PCs with the Apple iPod from HP and the iTunes software.
How do I find the iPod Warranty and Support Contact information?
Finding Support Contact information
If you have questions about your Apple iPod from HP, contact HP through HP's email services (U.S. only). An email technician can help answer technical questions, assist in replacing the battery if needed, provide prices for services, or assist in having the iPod repaired.
  caution:
If the iPod is to be repaired or have the battery replaced, make sure that you back up all music and files to a computer before sending the iPod to HP. All files will be removed in the repair or replacement process.
Finding Warranty information
There are two ways to find the Warranty for the iPod:
  • Go to the Product Support home page for the iPod, and click Manuals. In the Manuals page, click the Warranty and Support Guide link.
  • Refer to the print documentation that came with the iPod.
How can I put music into iTunes and my iPod?
You must use iTunes software to put music onto the iPod. Once iTunes is configured properly and the iPod is connected to the PC, songs can be transferred. This can be an auto-sync with the iTunes library or you can click and drag music from the iTunes library onto the iPod. For more information, see Adding music to iPod.
What files work with iTunes and iPod?
A variety of file types are supported by iPods from HP. All iPods from HP support MP3 files and some support more file types than others. To find the files that are supported by your iPod, refer to the HP support document Compatible File Format Types.
How do I create a music CD in iTunes?
To create a music CD in iTunes, first create a playlist with the music you want. Then insert a blank CD-R disc, select the playlist, and click the Burn Disc button . For more information, refer to the HP support document Creating a Music CD in iTunes.
My battery life is too short. What can I do?
If you have left the iPod in the cold, let it warm up to room temperature before waking it from sleep. Otherwise, a low-battery icon may appear and the iPod does not wake from sleep. If after warming up, the iPod does not wake from sleep, connect the power adapter, and press the Menu and Play/Pause buttons until the Apple logo appears. Refer to the following HP support document for complete battery information.
How do I reset or restore my iPod?
If the iPod has encountered errors or if you want to clear the hard disk drive or drive settings, you can reset or restore the iPod, depending on your needs. Refer to Resetting or Restoring an Apple iPod from HP for complete information.
How do I use my iPod as a removable disk drive?
You may want to put the iPod into Disk Mode so it can be seen in Windows Explorer as a removable hard disk drive. For details on how to do this, refer to the HP support document Setting Disk Mode.
