With PaperPort Viewer, you can share PaperPort items -- including articles, letters, contracts, budgets, reports, and photos -- with others who do not own PaperPort software. PaperPort Viewer lets others view and print PaperPort items.

Installing PaperPort Viewer for Windows

You can quickly install PaperPort Viewer for Windows after you have the correct hardware and software.

Hardware and software requirements

To run PaperPort Viewer for Windows, you need the following software and hardware:
  • An IBM or a 100 percent-compatible personal computer with a 386 microprocessor or higher
  • Windows software v 3.1 or later
  • 4 MB of memory
  • 1 MB of hard disk space
  • A VGA monitor or better

Using the windows installation program

You can install PaperPort Viewer for Windows on a hard disk by using the Setup program (SETUP.EXE). This program installs all the files you will need for using PaperPort Viewer for Windows.

To install PaperPort Viewer for Windows

  1. Start Windows.
  2. If the PaperPort Viewer Setup program is on your hard disk, skip to Step 3; otherwise, insert the PaperPort Viewer for Windows disk into the floppy disk drive.
  3. From the File menu, select Run. The Run dialog box appears.
  4. Type either A:\SETEP.EXE or B:\SETEP.EXE in the Run dialog box, depending on the drive from which you are installing PaperPort Viewer.
  5. Select OK. The PaperPort Viewer Setup screen appears.
  6. Select Install PaperPort Viewer.
  7. Select OK to make C:\PAPRVIEW as the target directory; or type the path where you want to install the files. The Setup program copies the selected files to the target hard disk.

Installing Paperport Viewer for Macintosh

To install PaperPort Viewer for Macintosh, you need the following hardware and software:
  • A Macintosh Plus or a later model
  • System 6.0.4 or later
  • 2 MB of memory
  • 400 kilobytes (KB) of hard disk space
  • A color or grayscale monitor (recommended)

Using The Macintosh Installer

PaperPort Viewer for Macintosh comes as a self-extracting archive file -- PaperPortViewer.sea. Copy the file onto your hard disk or have it on a disk before starting.

To Install PaperPort Viewer for Macintosh

  1. Display the Macintosh desktop.
  2. If the PaperPortViewer.sea file is on your hard disk, skip to Step 3; otherwise, insert the floppy disk with the file PaperPortViewer.sea.
  3. Double-click the file PaperPortViewer.sea.
  4. Select Continue. The directory dialog box appears.
  5. Select the drive and folder where you want to install PaperPort Viewer and select OK to begin the installation.

Starting Paperport Viewer

How you start PaperPort Viewer depends on your computer platform:
  • For Windows, open the PaperPort program group and double-click the PaperPort Viewer icon.
  • For Macintosh, double-click the PaperPort Viewer application icon on the Macintosh desktop.

Usage Tip

If you are using PaperPort and send an item to someone else to view in PaperPort Viewer, export the item as a PaperPort v 2.0 file (.max format for Macintosh). PaperPort Viewer can only read the PaperPort v 2.0 file format and not the v 3.x format.
