A 'Carriage Jam' Message Displays for HP Deskjet D5560 and D5568 Printers

Issue

The carriage that holds the cartridges does not move, and 'Carriage Jam' displays on the computer. The cartridge status lights () might blink simultaneously.
Try the following solutions in the order presented to resolve the issue. When one of the solutions resolves the issue, there is no need to continue troubleshooting.

Solution one: Turn the product off and turn it on

  1. Press the Power button () to turn off the product.
    If the product does not turn off, discontinue these steps, and continue to the next solution to clear a paper jam.
  2. Press the Power button () to turn on the product.
    Примечание.
    The product might require up to two minutes to start up. Lights might flash, and the carriage might move. Wait until startup finishes before proceeding.
  • If these steps resolved the issue, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.
  • If the issue persists, continue to the next solution.

Solution two: Clear any paper jam

Step one: Remove any loose paper

Remove any loose sheets of paper from the input tray and the output tray.
  Внимание!
Do not remove jammed paper at this stage. Trying to clear jammed paper from the front of the product can damage the print mechanism.

Step two: Clear the paper jam from the rear of the printer

  1. Press the power button () to turn off the product.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet and from the back of the product.
  3. Release the rear access door. Press the handle at the end of the door opposite the power cord, and then pull the door out.

  4. Carefully remove any jammed paper from the back of the product.
  5. Replace the rear access door, and make sure it snaps into place.

  6. Open the cartridge door.

  7. Gently remove all jammed paper.
      Внимание!
    Remove the jammed paper carefully. Incorrectly removing paper from the front of the product can damage the print mechanism.
  8. Make sure that no scraps of paper remain between the rollers.
  9. Close the cartridge door.

  10. Connect the power cord to the electrical outlet and to the back of the product.
  11. Press the Power button () to turn on the product.
  12. Press the Resume button ().

Step three: Open the cartridge door and clear the jam

  1. Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet and from the back of the product.
  2. Open the cartridge door.

  3. Gently remove all jammed paper.
      Внимание!
    Remove the jammed paper carefully. Incorrectly removing paper from the front of the product can damage the printing mechanism.
  4. Make sure that no scraps of paper remain between the rollers.
  5. Close the cartridge door.

  6. Plug the power cord into the electrical outlet and into the back of the product.
  7. Press the Power button () to turn on the product.
  8. Press the Resume button ().
  • If these steps resolved the issue, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.
  • If the issue persists, continue to the next solution.

Solution three: Make sure that the carriage moves freely

  1. Open the cartridge door.
    Примечание.
    The carriage might try to move into the middle of the product. Allow it to move to that position. If it does not move to the middle, press the Power button () to turn off the product.
  2. Without turning the product off, disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet, and then disconnect it from the back of the product.
  3. Remove any obstructions under or around the carriage. If the carriage is stuck in the middle of its path, try to move it gently to either end of its path.

    Obstructions can include paper jams, foreign objects, or internal components that have failed.
  4. Make sure that the carriage moves freely across the width of its path.
  5. Close the cartridge door.
  6. Reconnect the power cord to the electrical outlet and to the back of the product.
  7. Press the Power button () to turn on the product.
  • If these steps resolved the issue, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.
  • If the issue persists, continue to the next solution.

Solution four: Remove and reinstall the cartridges

Follow these steps to remove and reinstall the cartridges.

Step one: Remove the cartridges

  1. Open the output tray.

  2. Press the Power button () to turn on the product.
  3. Pull out the paper tray extender.

  4. Load paper in the input tray.
  5. Open the cartridge door.

  6. Wait until the carriage moves to the center of the product and is idle and quiet.
  7. Press down on each cartridge, and then slide it out of the carriage.

Step two: Reinstall the cartridges

  1. Hold the cartridge by its sides.

      Внимание!
    Do not touch the cartridge contacts or nozzles.

  2. Insert each cartridge into its designated slot. The black parallelogram icon () designates the slot for the black cartridge, and the magenta half circle icon () designates the slot for the color cartridge.

  3. Press each cartridge in to snap it into place.

  4. Close the cartridge door.

  • If these steps resolved the issue, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.
  • If the issue persists, continue to the next solution.

Solution five: Plug the printer directly into a wall outlet

Plug the product directly into a wall outlet to make sure the power source is functioning correctly.
  1. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the product.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from any power strips or surge suppressors, and then plug it directly into a wall outlet.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the back of the product.
  4. Try printing again.
    Примечание.
    If the product prints when plugged directly into a wall outlet, the power strip or surge protector might not be allowing enough voltage to reach the product.
  • If these steps resolved the issue, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.
  • If the issue persists, continue to the next solution.

Solution six: Perform a partial reset

  1. Press the Power button () to turn off the product.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet or surge protector.
  3. Unplug the power cord and the USB cable from the back of the product.
  4. Wait for 30 to 60 seconds.
  5. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.
  6. Plug only the power cord back into the product. Do not plug the USB cable back in yet.
  7. Press the Power button () to turn on the product. Wait until the product is idle and silent before proceeding.
  8. Plug the USB cable back into the product.
  • If these steps resolved the issue, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.
  • If the issue persists, continue to the next solution.

Solution seven: Service the printer

Service or replace your HP product if the issue persists after completing all the preceding steps.
Go to Contact HP Customer Support to schedule a product repair or replacement. If you are in Asia Pacific, you will be directed to a local service center in your area.
