HP LaserJet Pro 3001-3008 printers - 'Out of Paper' error, printer does not pick paper

The printer does not pick paper from the input tray and an Out of Paper message might display on the printer software or HP Smart app.

Perform the following tasks in the order given. Use the printer after each task to see if the issue is resolved.

Check the paper, and then reload it

Check the paper stack for defects, such as wrinkled, torn, or bent pieces that might cause a pick issue.

  1. Pull out the input tray drawer, and remove the stack of paper from the input tray.

  2. Remove any bent, wrinkled, or torn paper from the stack.

  3. Check for and remove any obstructions inside the input tray. Make sure nothing blocks the paper.

  4. Load the stack of paper into the input tray.

  1. Open the HP Smart app, and then click Print Documents or Print Photos.

  2. Browse to the document or photo, and then click Print.

    The Print window opens.

  3. Change the paper settings to match the size and type of paper that is loaded.

    • Media Type: Select the appropriate type of paper, such as photo paper, plain paper, or labels.

    • Paper Size: Select the correct paper size for your print job.

  4. Click Print.

Paper size and type settings are applied.

Print a cleaning page

Use Toner Cleaning Mode to clean dust from the paper rollers.

  1. Make sure paper is loaded in the main tray, and then turn on the printer.

  2. Open Advanced settings from the HP Smart app or the printer's embedded web server.

    • Open the HP Smart app, click your printer, select Printer Settings if necessary, and then select Advanced settings.

    • Open a web browser, and then enter the printer IP address to access the Embedded Web Server.

  3. Click ToolsUtilitiesPrint Quality Toolbox.

  4. If prompted, enter the Username and printer PIN.

    The default Username is Admin.

You can find the PIN (password) underneath the toner access door.
