OMEN Light Studio (BETA)
OMEN Light Studio is not a full release and is still under development. The OMEN Light Studio team is updating support for additional OMEN and non-HP peripherals. Not all OMEN or other peripherals are or will be supported.
Install OMEN Light Studio
OMEN Light Studio is designed to be a separate app and is not included in OMEN Gaming Hub. After you install OMEN Light Studio, you can launch it from the OMEN Gaming Hub home page.
You must have OMEN Gaming Hub installed to use OMEN Light Studio. If OMEN Gaming Hub is not installed, the computer displays a message showing that you must install OMEN Gaming Hub to use OMEN Light Studio.
-
In the Microsoft Store, search for OMEN Light Studio.
-
Download and install OMEN Light Studio.
Open OMEN Light Studio
After you install OMEN Gaming Hub and OMEN Light Studio, you can launch OMEN Light Studio from the OMEN Gaming Hub home page.
-
Click the Launch button on the OMEN Light Studio card, or click the OMEN Light Studio menu item.
Alternatively, search for and open OMEN Light Studio from the Start menu.
Differences between OMEN Gaming Hub lighting and OMEN Light Studio
By default, when OMEN Light Studio is installed, any supported devices are added to OMEN Light Studio.
When you open the OMEN Gaming Hub Lighting tab for a device that has been added to OMEN Light Studio, you are given the following options:
-
Proceed with basic lighting: The OMEN Gaming Hub Lighting tab opens and the device is removed from OMEN Light Studio.
-
Open OMEN Light Studio: OMEN Light Studio opens.
When you open the OMEN Gaming Hub Lighting tab for a device that has not been added to OMEN Light Studio, a Configure with OMEN Light Studio button is displayed. Click this button to open OMEN Light Studio and add the device.
Layout Editor
To open Layout Editor, click the Layout tab.
In Layout Editor, you can click and drag each device to rearrange the device positions and layout. You can also rotate the orientation of each device by clicking the corner of the box. In this mode, the Layers and Effects panels are not displayed.
To navigate the canvas, use the scroll bars or mouse wheel or click and drag the empty space on the canvas. Use the re-center button to center the canvas.
To zoom in or out, simultaneously press ctrl and scroll the mouse wheel, click the zoom-in/out buttons, enter a percentage, or click the fit-to-screen button.
Effects Editor
To open Effects Editor, click the Effects tab. By default, OMEN Light Studio opens Effects Editor. Effects Editor remembers your previous settings.
There are three main components in Effects Editor:
-
Layers panel
-
Zone Selection panel
-
Effects panel
Layers panel
OMEN Light Studio effects are layer based. Each layer contains one set of selected zones and one effect setting. Multiple layers are used with different zones and effect settings to create complex lighting effects for your devices.
The following menu items are available:
-
Create New Layer: Creates a new layer. There is no limit to how many layers you can create.
-
Eye icon: Show or hide a layer.
-
Effect icon: Indicates the effect selected for the layer.
-
Pen icon: Enables you to rename the layer. Every new layer is named New layer. Layers can have duplicate names or an empty name.
-
Copy icon: Duplicates a layer.
-
Trash icon: Deletes the layer. You can delete any layer except the last layer.
-
Three-bar icon: Click and drag this icon to rearrange layer priority. The layers are prioritized. For example, if overlapping zones are selected, the top layer effects overwrite the following layers.
Zone selection panel
In the Zone Selection panel, select the lighting zones for the layer. There are several zone selection methods. Click the icon for your chosen method.
-
Per-zone method
-
Click each zone or key on a device.
-
Press and hold ctrl to select multiple zones or keys.
-
Click and drag the mouse to create a marquee area to select a group of zones. Press and hold ctrl to select multiple groups.
-
If a selected area overlaps a previous selected zone, the selection is inverted.
-
-
Marquee method
-
The rectangular marquee area can be moved, resized, or rotated.
-
The marquee area is associated with the canvas, not the devices. If you move a device, the marquee area does not change and continues to apply the lighting effect only to the lighting zones within the marquee area.
-
-
Per-device method
-
You can choose a device from the drop-down menu to select all zones on that device.
-
You can choose All devices.
-
You can choose select devices within a category.
-
Effects panel
The Effects panel is located on the right. After you select the effect type, the corresponding effect settings are displayed.
If you change multiple effects within the same layer, all settings revert to default. Each layer saves only the last chosen effect and settings.
You can select any of the following effect types.
-
Static: A static solid color is displayed on the selected zone. You can choose a color present or a custom color.
-
Ambient: Uses a real-time sample of the display to map the color onto the selected lighting zone. For example, the RGB keyboard can have lighting similar to the display. You can choose to sample the entire screen (including which display), or to sample only the foreground app. You can set the image sampling quality and sampling rate to get a balance between quality and performance.
-
Color Cycle: The selected zones cycle through a series of colors. You can choose a preset theme or customize the color theme using the Color Editor. You can also change the speed of the color cycling animation.
-
Audio Visualizer: Reacts to the audio output to produce real-time animation based on the sound frequency range. You can select either Waveform or Power Bar mode. You can also select solid colors, where you choose two main colors and a background color, or gradient color, where you customize the gradient with Color Editor.
-
Wave: Linear motion of a set of colors. You can choose a preset theme or custom color. You can select the speed and the direction (360 degrees) of the wave motion.
-
Breathing: An animation of two colors fading in and out. You can choose two colors, or set either one to random color. When random color is chosen, the Color Editor is disabled. You can also set the speed of the animation.
-
Blinking: An animation of two colors switching. You can choose two colors, or set either one to random color. When a random color is chosen, the Color Editor is disabled. You can also set the speed of the animation.
-
Interactive: The lighting is initiated by a key press. You can choose two colors, or set either one to random color. There are several types of interactive effects:
-
Key wave: A circular ripple effect expands from the position of the pressed key.
-
Key fade: The pressed key is lit for a time, and then slowly fades.
-
Key wave (Filled): A circular filled area expands from the position of the pressed key.
-
Key wave (Rainbow): A circular ripple effect expands from the position of the pressed key. There is a rainbow color scheme that cannot be customized.
You can adjust the speed of the animation. You can adjust the size of a key wave animation. The interactive effect moves across all available zones depending on the placement of your devices. The zone selection does not select the active lighting zones, but only defines which keys activate the effect. The interactive effect only supports per-zone selection.
When Interactive is selected, only supported keyboards (per-key RGB) are displayed. All other devices are disabled.
-
-
Image: Uses a sample of an image file to map the color onto the selected lighting zone. If you sample an animated GIF, the animation affects the lighting.
Most effects allow you to customize the color using Color Editor. You can any of the following to select and customize a color:

-
Adjust the brightness on the horizontal slider.
