OMEN by HP 15 ce000, dc0000 PCs - Replace the memory module

If the memory module crashes, is damaged, or needs upgrading, you can replace the memory module.

CAUTION:

This product contains components that can be damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD). HP recommends using an anti-static wrist strap and working over a non-carpeted floor with a conductive foam pad to reduce the to reduce the chance of electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage.

Servicing internal components increases the risk of damaging the computer which might not be covered under warranty. Understand the risk and refer to the product's warranty before you attempt to service the computer.

Prepare for replacing parts of the computer

Prepare for replacing a part of the computer by making sure your computer, components, and workspace are ready.

  1. Turn off the computer, and then wait for components to cool.

  2. Disconnect the power cord and any cables from the computer, and then unplug the power cord from the wall outlet, surge protector, extension cable, or power strip.

  3. Transfer the computer to a clear, flat, stable work surface over a non-carpeted floor with a conductive foam pad to reduce the chance of electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage. HP recommends using anti-static wrist straps.

  4. Keep and parts or components in their protective packaging until you are ready to install them.

  5. Make sure you have a Phillips or Flathead screwdriver, depending on your computer model.

Remove the memory module

Remove the memory module from inside the computer.

  1. Remove the top cover.

  2. Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the four 5mm (0.19 in) screws that secure the battery in place.

    Warning:

    To avoid personal injury and damage to the computer, use extreme care not to puncture, twist, or crack the battery. An internal puncture or rupture to the battery can cause an electrical short, which might result in a thermal event.

  3. With both hands, carefully lift the rear edge of the battery, and then slide the front edge away from the base enclosure to remove the battery.

  4. Remove the polyester film that covers the memory module, and then set it aside for later use.

  5. Push out both levers simultaneously to release the memory module.

  6. Grasp the memory module by the edges, and then gently remove it.

Replace the memory module

Replace the memory module, and then secure it in place inside the computer.

  1. Align the notch in the replacement memory module with the tab on the memory module slot, and then insert the module at an angle in the slot on the system board.

  2. Press down on the memory module to secure the module in place.

  3. Replace the polyester film that covers the memory module. Make sure to press down on the edge of the film to secure it into place.

  4. Using both hands, slide the front edge of the battery into the cut-outs, and then lower the rear edge onto its connector on the system board.

  5. Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to replace the four 5mm (0.19 in) screws that secure the battery in place.
