HP LaserJet M806 and HP LaserJet Flow MFP M830 - Removal and replacement: Hard disk drive (HDD)

This document provides the procedures to remove and replace the HP High-Performance Secure Hard-Disk DriBve (HDD) for the HP LaserJet Enterprise M806 and HP LaserJet Enterprise Flow MFP M830.

Mean time to repair: 10 minutes

Service level: Intermediate

Before performing service

Turn the printer power off

  • Disconnect the power cable.

    Warning:

To avoid damage to the printer, turn the printer off, wait 30 seconds, and then remove the power cord before attempting to service the printer.

  • Disconnect all cables and accessories attached to the formatter.

CAUTION:

This part contains components that are electrostatic discharge (ESD) sensitive. To reduce the possibility of ESD damage, always touch the sheet-metal chassis to ground yourself before touching an ESD sensitive part.

Important:

Do not replace the formatter, DC controller, and hard-disk drive simultaneously during a single printer servicing. Doing so might cause the printer to become unstable or inoperable.

Use the table below to identify the correct part number for your printer, and then go to https://parts.hp.com/hpparts to order the part.

  • Use the power switch to turn the power on.

To verify that the formatter is correctly installed, observe the following function of the connectivity LED on the formatter.

    • The connectivity LED (callout 1) indicates that the formatter is completely seated. It illuminates green when the product power is turned on and stays green if the formatter is properly seated.

If the LED does not correctly function, turn the product power off, remove the formatter, and then reinstall it (make sure that the formatter is fully seated before tightening the thumbscrews).

  2. Unpack the replacement part from the packaging.

    CAUTION:

Some parts are sensitive to electrostatic discharge (ESD). Always perform service work at an ESD-protected workstation or mat. If an ESD workstation or mat is not available, touch the sheet-metal chassis to provide a static ground before touching an ESD-sensitive assembly. Protect the ESD-sensitive assemblies by placing them in ESD pouches when they are out of the printer.

    Important:

Make sure that all of the shipping materials (for example shipping tape) are removed from the replacement part prior to installation.

    Note:

If the replacement part is a roller or pad, avoid touching the spongy part of it. Skin oils on the roller or pad can cause paper pickup and/or print-quality problems. HP recommends using disposable gloves when handling rollers or pads or washing your hands before touching rollers or pads.

  3. To install an assembly, reverse the removal steps.

    Note:

When applicable, special installation instructions are provided for an assembly at the end of the removal procedure. Always completely read the removal instructions and follow all special installation instructions.
