Samsung Laser Printers - Use the NFC feature to print from a mobile device

This document provides information on how to use the Near Field Communication (NFC) feature on Samsung printers to print documents from an Android mobile device.

note:
The NFC feature is available only on select Wi-Fi printer models. To add this feature on a wireless networking printer, you might have to contact the purchasing point to order a wireless/NFC kit, and then install the kit using the Installation Guide.

Follow these steps to use the NFC feature on the printer:

Step one: Review the requirements

Before using the NFC feature, make sure to preview the following requirements:

Use a mobile device with an Android operating system 4.1 or newer version.
Make sure to use a NFC supported mobile device.
Enable Wi-Fi Direct feature on your mobile device and printer.
Install Samsung Mobile Print app on your mobile device.

note:
It is recommended to use an Android operating system 4.1 or newer versions as it automatically enables the Wi-Fi feature and NFC feature on your smartphone.

Step two: Set up Wi-Fi Direct feature for mobile printing

Use one of the following methods to set up the Wi-Fi Direct feature:

note:
Depending on your printer model, the Wi-Fi Direct setting on the printer control panel menu might vary.

From the printer control panel: From the Home screen of the printer control panel, select the Network menu, and then select the Wi-Fi Direct setting. Make sure to enable Wi-Fi Direct.

OR
From a network connected printer: Access the SyncThru Web Service, and then select the Wi-Fi Direct setting from Network Settings.

Step three: Set up the Samsung Mobile Print application on your mobile device

note:
Make sure to set up Wi-Fi Direct on the printer and to set Wi-Fi Direct on your mobile device before downloading the Samsung Mobile Print application on your mobile device.

Follow these steps to set up the Samsung Mobile Print application on your mobile device:

Download the Samsung Mobile Print application.
1. Go to Google Play Store or Samsung Apps.
  
  note:
  Samsung Mobile Print is also available in the App Store.
2. Tap the Search icon, and then type Samsung Mobile Print in the Search text box.
3. Tap Install.
Select the printer you want to connect to your mobile device.

Make sure that the printer's LED blinks. Press the WPS button on the printer to connect to your mobile device.

note:
If you do not have the WPS button on the printer, select the option you want when the Wi-Fi connection confirmed window displays on the control panel screen to connect to your mobile device.

Step four: Establish a NFC connection on the mobile device and printer

Follow these steps to establish a NFC connection between the mobile device and the printer:

Make sure to enable the NFC and Wi-Fi Direct features on your mobile device and enable the Wi-Fi Direct feature on your printer.
Tag the NFC antenna on your mobile device to the NFC tag on your printer.

For some smartphones, the NFC antenna might be located on the back of the smartphone.

note:
Make sure to wait for a few seconds for the smartphone to connect to the printer and for the Samsung Mobile Print app to start.

Step five: Use the NFC feature to print, scan, or send a fax to the printer

Depending on the task you want to perform, select one of the following topics:

The scan and fax features are only available for Multifunction printers (MFP).

Print

Follow these steps to print using the NFC feature:

Make sure to establish a NFC connection on the mobile device and the printer, and Wi-Fi Direct is enabled on the printer.

note:
If an error message displays about a changed PIN number, type the correct changed PIN number, and then press OK. Follow the instructions on the app screen to update the PIN number.
Make sure that the Samsung Mobile Print app starts.
Select the print mode, and then select the content you want to print.

note:
If required, select the settings icon to change any of the print options.
Tag the NFC antenna on your mobile device to the NFC tag on your printer.

note:
Make sure to wait for a few seconds for the mobile device to send a print job to the printer.

The printer will print the document.

Scan

Follow these steps to scan using the NFC feature:

Make sure to establish a NFC connection on the mobile device and the printer, and Wi-Fi Direct is enabled on the printer.
Make sure that the Samsung Mobile Print app starts.

note:
If an error message displays about a changed PIN number, type the correct changed PIN number, and then press OK. Follow the instructions on the app screen to update the PIN number.
Place a page face-down on the document glass, or load the document face-up into the document feeder of the printer.
Select a scan mode.

note:
If required, select the settings icon to change any of the scan options.
Tag the NFC antenna on your mobile device to the NFC tag on your printer.

note:
Make sure to wait for a few seconds for the mobile device to send a scan job to the printer.

The printer starts scanning the document and the scanned document is saved on your smartphone.

note:
To continue scanning, follow the instructions on the app screen.

Send a fax

Follow these steps to send a fax using the NFC feature:

Make sure to establish a NFC connection on the mobile device and the printer, and Wi-Fi Direct is enabled on the printer.
Make sure that the Samsung Mobile Print app starts.

note:
If an error message displays about a changed PIN number, type the correct changed PIN number, and then press OK. Follow the instructions on the app screen to update the PIN number.
Select a fax mode, and select the content you want to send a fax.

note:
If required, type the fax number and select the settings icon to change any of the fax options.
Tag the NFC antenna on your mobile device to the NFC tag on your printer.

note:
Make sure to wait for a few seconds for the mobile device to send a fax job to the printer.

The printer starts faxing the document.

Step six: Use the NFC feature to register with Google Cloud Printer (Optional)

Registering with Google Cloud Print service is applicable for the following printers:

Samsung Xpress Color MFP SL-C480
Samsung Xpress SL-M2835
Samsung Xpress MFP SL-M2885

Follow these steps to register your printer with the Google Cloud Print™ service:

Make sure that the NFC and Wi-Fi Direct features are enabled on your mobile device and the Wi-Fi Direct feature is enabled on your printer.
Make sure to download the Samsung Mobile Print app.
Tag the NFC antenna on your mobile device to the NFC tag on your printer.

Make sure that the Samsung Mobile Print app starts.
Select the device status icon.
Select Google Cloud Print, and then select Register Google Cloud Printer.
Tag the NFC antenna on your mobile device to the NFC tag on your printer.

note:
Make sure to wait for a few seconds for the mobile device to connect to the printer.
Confirm your printer displays in the pop-up window.

Your printer is now registered with the Google Cloud Print™ service.
