HP PCs - Using Intel® Wireless Display (WiDi) to Display Multimedia to Your TV

note:

If you are not using the latest version of Windows 8, some graphics and information in this document may vary. You can get the latest version from the Microsoft Store.

• An Intel WiDi compatible PC with WiDi software installed
• A WiDi compatible Wireless Display Adapter such as a certified Wireless Display Adapter or display device
  This device connects to your high definition TV.

• Stream media files stored on your computer, not wirelessly from the Internet.
• To stream Internet content through your PC, connect your PC with a network cable and then stream to your WiDi device.
• Placing your computer and the WiDi receiver in the same room delivers the best performance.

1. Turn on your WiDi enabled computer and make sure it is connected to the Internet.
2. Make sure your computer has the latest updates to the Intel Wireless Display software. Go to Intel WiDi installation or update instructions (in English) and get the latest available updates.
3. Connect your WiDi compatible display adapter to your TV using the instructions that came with the adapter.
4. Make sure both TV and adapter are on.
5. On the TV, select the input source that matches the WiDi adapter connection, such as HDMI or HDMI2.
   When the adapter is connected properly to the TV, the TV should display a screen stating that it is waiting for a connection (or similar).
6. On the computer, open the Windows 8 Charms bar and select the Devices charm.

7. Under Devices, select Project.

8. Under Project, select Add a wireless display. The system begins searching for devices.

9. After a compatible WiDi device has been detected, select the name of the device, and the system starts connecting.

10. The system then displays a WPS PIN on the monitor or TV. Enter this code into the computer and select Next.

11. The wireless display device now appears under Projectors.
    Open a piece of content such as a YouTube video and the streaming should begin.

    note:

    A message about HDCP might appear when making the connection. HDCP stand for High Definition Copyright Protection and does not allow display of HD video without special authorization criteria. In order to display high definition video, it might be necessary to enter a code using the keyboard on your computer. If requested to enter a code, do so at this time. In the future, you will not be asked to enter a code in subsequent sessions unless the device is removed from the list or you connect to another adapter.

    Future sessions might not require you to enter a code, but you may briefly see a message about HDCP. If an HDCP message appears, wait until the message clears. Both the computer and the display device should show the same image on each screen. It may be necessary to adjust the display resolution on the computer to get the best picture.

12. To change the projection mode, open the Devices charm, and select Project. Choose among Duplicate, Extend, and Second Screen Only.

    note:

    Press the Windows key plus P to switch between clone mode and extended mode in order to see content on the second display.

13. To disconnect, open the Devices charm, select Project, and then select Disconnect.
