Removing and Replacing the Back Covers in HP TouchSmart 610, 620 Series Desktop PCs

This document applies to HP Touch 610 and 620 all-in-one desktop computers.

HP TouchSmart 610 or 620 all-in-one desktop computer

Before you begin

Turn off the computer and disconnect all cables.
Transfer the computer to a clean, flat, stable work surface over a noncarpeted floor. HP recommends that you put down a blanket, towel, or othersoft cloth to protect the screen from scratches or other damage.
Electrostatic discharge (ESD) can damage your processor, disk drives, expansion boards and other components. HP strongly recommends the use of an antistatic wrist strap and a conductive foam pad when working on the computer.
Do not remove a component from its protective packaging until you are ready to install it.

caution:
This product contains components that can be damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD). To reduce the chance of ESD damage, work over a non-carpeted floor, use a static dissipative work surface (such as a conductive foam pad), and wear an ESD wrist strap connected to a grounded surface.

Removing and replacing the back access panels

This document provides instructions to remove the back panels to permit access to the CD/DVD drive, the hard disk drive, and the system memory.

Make sure the computer is disconnected from power before starting.

Removing and replacing the USB dongle cap

Use the following steps:

Removing the USB dongle cap

Step 1 Squeeze the release tabs for the rear I/O door.
Step 2 Swing out the rear I/O door until it locks into position.
Step 3 Pull on the top edge of the USB dongle cap to remove it from the computer.

Replacing the USB dongle cap

Step 1 Find the two tabs on the bottom of the USB dongle cap.
Step 2 Find the slots on the rear cover.
Step 3 Align the two tabs onto their slots and press the cover into place.
Step 4 Swing in the rear I/O door until it locks into position.

Removing and replacing the right rear cap

Remove the right rear cap to access the hard disk drive and the CD/DVD drive.

Use the following steps:

Step 1 Remove the USB dongle cap.
Step 2 Pull off the screw cover at the top edge of the cap.
Step 3 Remove the screw.
Step 4 Slide the right rear cap towards the middle of the computer.
Step 5 Pull off the cap.

Replacing the right rear cap

Step 1 Find the tab on the top side of the right rear cap.
...that slides under the screw hole on the rear cover.
Step 2 Find the tabs on the top edges ...
...and the bottom edges of the cap.
that slide into slots on the upper edge of the rear cover...
...and the lower edge of the rear cover.
Step 3 Slide the screw tab on the door under the hole on the frame.
Step 4 Press the right rear cap down against the rear cover so the tabs align into their slots.
Step 5 Slide the cap towards the side...
... until the screw hole on the cap and the rear cover align.
Step 6 Replace the screw.
Step 7 The screw cover has two small tabs...
...that fit into slots on the rear cover.
Step 8 Press the screw cover tabs into the slots and snap the screw cover into place.
Step 9 Replace the USB dongle cap.

Removing and replacing the right side cap

Remove the right side cap to access the CD/DVD drive.

Use the following steps:

Step 1 Remove the USB dongle cap.
Step 2 Remove the right rear cap.
Step 3 Detach the two screws for the right side cap.
Step 4 Use a flat head screwdriver to pry up the latch securing the cap to the rear cover.
Step 5 Rotate the cap off of the unit.

Replacing the right side cap

Step 1 Find the slotted tabs...
...that fit into slots on the front bezel.
Step 2 Find the latch on the right side cap...
... that attaches over a slot on the rear cover.
Step 3 Align the slotted tabs over the slots on the bezel.
Step 4 Rotate the cap and press until the latch snaps into place.
Step 5 Press the cap edges to make sure it is correctly in place.
Step 6 Replace the two screws for the right side cap.
Step 7 Replace the right side cap and the USB dongle cap.

Removing and replacing the left rear cap

Remove the left rear cap to access the system memory.

Use the following steps:

Step 1 Remove the USB dongle cap.
Step 2 Pull off the screw cover at the top edge of the cap.
Step 3 Remove the screw.
Step 4 Slide the left rear cap towards the middle of the computer.
Step 5 Pull off the cap.

Replacing the left rear cap

Step 1 Find the tab on the top side of the left rear cap.
...that slides under the screw hole on the rear cover.
Step 2 Find the tabs on the top edges ...
...and the bottom edges of the cap.
