HP Compaq dc7700 Convertible Minitower PC - Removing and Replacing the Optical drive

Introduction
This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the Optical drive for the HP Compaq dc7700 Convertible Minitower PC.
Minimum skill level
The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.

The replacement part number will vary depending on the Optical drive that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP.

Optical drive removal
  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2.   note:
    This system supports SATA drives only. You do not have to select a cable setting.
  3. Disconnect the data and power cables from the rear of the drive.
  4. Pull out on the green release latch and slide the drive out of the drive cage.
      note:
    In a desktop configuration, push in on the yellow drive lock to release the drive.
    If the replacement drive does not include guide screws, remove and reuse the screws from this drive.
Optical drive replacement
  1. Align the guide screws on the drive with the guide slots in the drive bay and push the drive into the bay until it snaps into place.
  2. Connect the power and data cables to the drive.
Verifying successful repair
Verify the replacement CD/DVD drive is able to successfully read a CD/DVD.
