HP Compaq Thin Clients - How to Create an USB Bootable Image

Information

How to Create an USB Bootable Image for Thin Clients

Details

Creating a USB Bootable Image;
The following procedure creates a bootable image on a USB device (DiskOnKey). When completed, the DiskOnKey is inserted in the USB port of the client and the client is rebooted. The client boot order must be configured in the BIOS Setup to the default, USB as the first boot device.
  1. Connect your USB flash device (drive key). Ensure that only one USB flash device is connected to the system. Click USB Format.
  2. Select the USB drive from the list. (If the USB drive does not appear in the list, click Update Drives, then scroll through the list again.) During the next step, the USB drive is reformatted and all data on it is erased before the bootable image is copied to it. To prevent loss of data, be sure that you have saved any data from the USB drive to another drive. Click Format.
  3. Click Yes on the confirmation dialog.
  4. The device format begins. Depending on the size of the device, this process can take between 5 and 10 minutes.
  5. The image copy is done automatically as soon as the format stage completes. When the image copy completes, a confirmation message displays.
  6. The USB device has the following contents: An autoexec.bat file that invokes the imaging program (ibr.exe) and provides the name of the OS image (flash.img) Command.com for DOS along with the config.sys and kernel.sys system files Restore.pdf which contains the documentation on the HP Imaging Tool
  7. Connect the bootable USB flash device to the thin client and restart the thin client.
