HP Pavilion dv2000 and the Compaq Presario V3000 Notebook PCs - Steps for Removing and Replacing the Real-Time Clock Battery

This document provides instructions for the removal and replacement of the real-time clock battery for the dv2000 and V3000 series notebook PCs.
Use the video as a guide while following the written instructions below.

Step 1 - Remove the battery

  1. Slide the battery release latch to the release position and hold.
  2. Lift and remove the battery.

Step 2 - Remove the Real-Time Clock battery

  1. Loosen the two captive P0 Phillips head screws that secure the hard disk drive cover to the bottom of the notebook.
    note:
    Screw location is indicated by the appropriate icon.
  2. Use your finger or a flat-bladed tool to lift the inside edge of the hard disk drive cover and lift. Work the holding tabs along each side of the cover to fully free it and remove.
  3. The RTC battery is located in the compartment next to the hard disk drive and is held into place with a small amount of adhesive.Lift the RTC battery, and disconnect the cable from the system board.
  4. Remove the RTC battery.

Step 3 - Replace the Real-Time Clock battery

  1. Connect the RTC battery cable to the system board.
    note:
    The RTC battery is held in position by a small patch of adhesive.
  2. Place the RTC battery into the bay.
  3. Toe the hard disk drive cover into the enclosure and snap it into place.
  4. Tighten the two captive P0 Phillips head screws.

Step 4 - Replace the battery

  1. Tilt and place the battery into the battery bay until it is properly seated and the locking latch clicks.
