Error 691: Access was denied because the username and/or password was invalid on the domain.
Error 734: The PPP link control protocol was terminated. As a result, you cannot establish a dial-up connection.

Details

This article assumes that you have already installed the required software (Wireless Modem Software) and made the physical connection between iPAQ and another PC.
For more details about how to use an iPAQ as an external modem to connect to the internet, you may refer to the details of "HP iPAQ hw6500 Mobile Messenger Series - Wireless Modem Software" on HP website.

Solution

Confirm the following:
  • GPRS connection works fine on the iPAQ (user is able to connect to the Internet on the iPAQ).If not, GPRS settings on the iPAQ needs to be corrected first.
  • Check the number being dialled.Mostly its *99#, *9***1#, *9***2# or *9***3#, but this number may differ depending on the country and ISP/Telecom whose GPRS service you have on the iPAQ.These numbers work for most of the Connections.
  • Most Importantly: Some connections needs modem Initialization, so its important that initialization string is inserted in the modem properties window. You may find this Initialisation string on the net or from your ISP/Telcom company becuase its different for different providers/Handsets and connection types. For one of the users the following initialization string resolved the issue : "+cgdcont=1,”IP”,internet.wind" (without qoutes)
