HP Designjet 700 Series Printers - Clearing a Media/Paper Jam

  1. Turn off the printer before attempting to lift the cover to clear the media jam.
      warning:
Do not touch the stainless steel strip that runs the length of the printer behind the cartridge carriage. Its edge is very sharp. Keep hair, jewelry, clothing, and foreign objects away from the printer mechanisms.
When moving the cartridge carriage, only touch the black plastic parts of the carriage.
  2. Carefully slide the cartridge carriage out of the way toward either the left or the right side of the enclosed ends of the printer.
      note:
Which way you are able to move the cartridge depends on where the media is jammed. If the printer was in the process of cutting media at the time of the jam, the cutter carriage will be attached to the cartridge carriage and will move with it.
  3. Lift the gray media lever on the right side of the printer and carefully remove any of the jammed media that is easy to lift up and out from the top of the printer.
  4. Carefully pull the rest of the roll or sheet media down and out of the media-entry slot where the media is loaded.
  5. Check around the ends, front, and rear edges of the platen roller to verify that all of the torn media is removed.
  6. Lower the printer's cover and the lever and turn the printer on. After initialization, press the FORM FEED AND CUT button to eject any pieces of media that might still be in the media path.
  7. Reload the media as normal. If you use roll media, you will need to trim the edge so that it is straight before loading the media again, to avoid any jamming while loading.
