Print on envelopes with an HP printer

Print a name and address on envelopes using a word processing app, your contacts list, or pre-formatted templates.

Load envelopes into the printer

How you load envelopes depends on what type of printer you have and where the paper input tray is located.

About this task

CAUTION:

To avoid jams and printer damage, do not print envelopes with clasps, windows, shiny surfaces, or coated linings. If you have a LaserJet printer, do not use envelopes with self-stick adhesives or other materials that are susceptible to heat.

Procedure

Load the envelopes into the main input tray.
- Inkjet printers with a front tray: Front of envelope facing down and the flap to the left
- Inkjet printers with a rear tray: Front of envelope facing up and the flap to the left
- LaserJet printers with a front tray: Front of envelope facing up and the flap to the left
Slide the paper width guides in until they rest against the edges of the envelopes.

Print the envelopes

Use a Windows or Mac app to set up a print job for envelopes.

Print envelopes with WordPad (Windows)

Format a document in WordPad to print envelopes. WordPad comes pre-installed with Windows.

About this task

Procedure

Search Windows for and open WordPad.
Click File or the menu icon , and then click Page Setup.
Select your envelope type from the Size menu, select Landscape orientation, then click OK.
Type the address, and then use the formatting tools on the Home tab to align and center the text.
Click the File menu, move your mouse cursor over Print, and then click Print preview to make sure the address is correctly centered and sized.
Click Print.

Print envelopes with Microsoft Word (Windows)

Print a single envelope in Microsoft Word for Windows using the Mailings tools. Additionally, Word includes templates for many envelope types and designs.

Procedure

In Microsoft Word, click Mailings, and then click Envelopes.

Note:
To print multiple envelopes and use the Mail Merge feature, go to Microsoft Support: Mail merge with envelopes (in English).
In the Envelopes and Labels window, type the delivery and return addresses.
Click Options to select the envelope size, font, and printer feed method, and then click OK.
Click Print.

Print envelopes with the Contacts app (Mac)

Contacts comes pre-installed with Mac computers and includes settings to format and print envelopes.

About this task

Procedure

Search the Mac for and open Contacts.
Click the name of the contact you want to print on the envelope, making sure the address fields are filled out.
Click File > Print, and then click Show Details at the bottom of the dialog if it displays.
Click the Style menu, and then select Envelopes.
Click Layout, and then select your envelope size from the Layout pop up menu.
To add, remove, or change the return address field, click Label, and then select or deselect the check box next to Print my address.
Click Orientation, and then select the landscape option.
Click Print.
