HP PCs - Change languages (Windows 11, 10)

Over a hundred languages can be downloaded from the Language settings in Windows. Many of the languages have a number of dialects, which are called regional variants. Use the steps below to install a new language pack.

1. In Windows, search for and open Language settings.

2. In the Preferred languages section, click Add a language.

   Note:

   If you purchased a Windows Single Language version, you must upgrade your Windows license.

3. In the Choose a language to install window, select or type the name of the language to download and install, and then click Next.

4. In the Install language features window, select the features that you want to use, and then click Install.

After you download a language pack, you can switch between display languages.

1. Sign in to your account.

   Note:

   Other people using the computer can choose different primary display languages by signing in to their accounts.

2. In Windows, search for and open Language settings.

3. Select the language to use from the Windows display language menu.

4. To apply the new display language to apps, settings, menus, and other areas of Windows, do one of the following, depending on your operating system.

   • In Windows 11, click Sign out, and then sign in again.

   • In Windows 10, click Yes, sign out now when prompted, and then sign in again.

5. To return to the previous language or select a new language, repeat the previous steps.

After a language is added to the language list, an appropriate input method is added automatically. After you add a language, you can select a different input language and keyboard layout.

1. In Windows, search for and open Typing settings.

2. Click Advanced keyboard settings.

   The Advanced keyboard settings windows is displayed.

3. Select the language from the Override default input method menu.

4. To change the keyboard layout, search for and open Language settings.

5. In the Preferred languages section, do one of the following, depending on your operating system.

   • In Windows 11, click the language name, click the menu icon , and then click Language options.

   • In Windows 10, click the language name, and then click Options.

6. Under Keyboard, click Add a keyboard.

7. To switch between keyboard layouts, press and hold the Windows key , and then press the spacebar key.

8. If you would like each app to use a specific keyboard, search for and open Advanced keyboard settings.

9. Under Switching input methods, select Let me use a different input method for each app window.

Apply the language that you installed to the Welcome screen and other accounts.

1. In Windows, search for and open Language settings.

2. Under Related settings, click Administrative language settings.

   The Region window is displayed.

3. Select the Administrative tab, and then click Copy settings.

4. Review your current settings, and then select the Welcome screen and system accounts box.

   Note:

   To apply your display language choice to all new user accounts, select the New user accounts box.

5. Click OK to apply the changes, and then restart your computer if prompted.

Installing multiple language packs might affect how much hard disk space is available, as well as system performance. Uninstall any language packs you no longer want or need.

1. In Windows, search for and open Language settings.

2. In the Preferred languages section, do one of the following, depending on your operating system.

   • In Windows 11, click the language name, click the menu icon , and then click Remove.

   • In Windows 10, click the language name, and then click Remove.

3. If you set the removed language to be displayed on the welcome screen and other accounts, click Administrative language settings.

4. Review your current settings, and then clear the Welcome screen and system accounts box.

5. Click OK to apply the changes, and then restart your computer if prompted.
